Commercial Description:
Our newest beer in the lineup. This India Pale Ale is loaded with hops yet balanced with a malty sweetness. A fine beer from the first aroma sense to the finish!

Aroma: A crisp aroma with a citrusy character, some malts in the back ground. Appearance: It pours clear with a deep copper color with a tall white head. Flavor: It’s classic IPA with a prominent American hop taste up front and a strong malt back bone to finish up. Mouth feel: It has a medium body. Overall Impression: In these days of over the top hopping, Hoppy Boy seems mild. It’s one of the milder IPA’s I’ve had, but that should not scare anyone away. As with all the Twisted Pine beers I have tried, this one hits the style guidelines. Finishing up a cooler full of Hoppy Boy would not be difficult for me to do. This is an easy to drink beer.

Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. Real fresh grapefruit, floral aroma that lit up the nose. Copper body with decent head. If the flavor would have been like the aroma, this beer could have been a "5". But the flavor was a decent IPA - citrusy. Cool and crisp on the palate. Good brew. Thanks, Eric, for the opportunity to try this one!

on tap-pours an off white head with slight hazy gold color. Aroma is citrus hops, secondary sweet malt. Taste is citrus hops with a bite, secondary sweet malt-light caramel. OK carbonation.

22oz bottle sampled in mid-August ’06: Pours a clear dark golden bronze with a nicely-lacing frothy white head. Aroma has a big, fresh piny spruce and grapefruity hoppy presence with a nice, mild crystal malty balance. Body starts with a semi-sweet toasty caramel maltiness with good fresh piny citrus hoppy balance. Very smooth and drinkable, a nice IPA.

This smells great. Floral and bitter hops. The beer doesn’t live up to the great aroma. A nice flavor, but just too light. Disappointed.

Draft. Clearing dark amber in color. Smooth, creamy-looking head. Lots of hopcit aromas. Grapefruit, orange, bitter bite. Sweetening malts on the finish.

Draft at the brewpub. A hazy amber beer with a lazing white head. The aroma is lovely grassy hoppy which also lends it notes of pine needles and citrus. The flavor is sweet and very hoppy which primarily gives it notes of grass and pine needles, leading to a dry and very bitter finish.

I thought this a better-than-average IPA/APA. The beer had a lot of very pleasant sweet citrus hop notes, but these weren’t balanced with a lot of very bitter hop character. Nonetheless, I found this a very pleasant and easy-to-drink beer which paired easily with food. Appearance was a rather rich amber color that was clear but not sparkling. Aroma was of pineapple and passion-fruit. Flavor was very citrus-y and sweet, with a malt character that was a bit under-powered. Mouthfeel was very light, and this beer was exceedingly easy to drink. Far from the biggest IPA I’ve had recently, but still a very enjoyable beer. Something you could drink as an apertif, with a meal, or while cutting the grass and still scratch your beer itch. Definitely recommended.
