Bottle... O-Town Throwdown... This beer rocks!... Pitch black ale with a small, creamy, beige head. Chocolaty aroma with hints of coffee and butterscotch (low level of diacetyl which seems to work really well with this beer). The flavor is chocolaty-sweet with rich caramel and only moderate bitterness. Full-bodied and velvety with subdued carbonation. Finishes chocolaty and sweet, but not cloyingly so. Thanks to Crosling for supplying the bottle of this world class brew!

Looks great coming out of the bottle: rich, thick, black. Sweet, roasty aroma. Not as creamy or oily as I thought it would be, which was a mild disappointment. The alcohol is less than subtle and overrides the dark fruits, coffee and chocolate. Just too hot right now, but I see much promise.

The nose on this was roastiness with some alcohol.Poured a gloomy black color.Flavors of roasted malts and coffee with a slight hint of chocolate.The finish was a little bitter, but overall good stuff.

Pours a chocolaty brown, with a very modest light brown head. Big banana smell mixed in with some sweet dark malts and yeast. Pretty thin body, alot of coffee and some of that banana as well. Pretty smooth and somewhat mellow. I wish it had just a little more body to it. Still, quite a tasty porter.

22oz, thanks to crosling for this extra! pours dark with small tan head. nose has ripe bananas, pear, and some chocolate notes. i can’t stand banana aroma in malty beers. flavor is silk chocolate, caramel, apple, pear, smoked currants, and cheese. pretty complex flavors. mouthfeel is rich and creamy. carbination is low-medium. alcohol is well hidden. pretty tasty stuff but the banana doesn’t mix well with the chocolate notes.

At the 2007 Big Beer, Belgians, & Barleywines Festival in Vail. Poured black with no head. Good roasted and chocolate aromas. Great thick malty palate with a mixture of coffee, chocolate, and soy sauce. I really thought that this was a sleeper and deserves better ratings. UPDATE 3/2008: I really detect lots of roasted smokiness to the aroma this time. Not quite as thick as I remember from before.

Bomber poured a clear dark black with a small lasting brown head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla and a hint of coffee. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of milk chocolate, vanilla, roastiness and hints of dark fruit with a warming lingering finish.

22 oz bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a smallish brown head that quickly diminishes to a collar that laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet lactic chocolate and some dark fruits with a little hops in the background. As it sits, alcohol comes out.

The flavor is sweet chocolate, lactose and grains with a little dark fruits. It has a crisp finish, but negligible bitterness. The alcohol is well-hidden. The mouthfeel is pretty full with light carbonation.

Overall, an OK imperial porter. It’s a bit too unbalanced on the sweet side - almost like a milk stout.
