Poured brown with reddish tint and a huge head. Aroma was bourbon with malty and grainy notes. The flavor was woody, oxidized, dry and slightly malty with warming alcohol. The flavors are enhanced as the beer warms. The palate is very smooth and fizzy. Overall this is a decent beer with a good presentation and the mellow flavors really intensify as the beer warms.

Vanilla whiskey barrel arroma. Amber color. Tastes like its description; a bit intense on the whiskey. Definately a new take on the red ale. It was called "Reilly’s Oak Whiskey Red" at the brewery.

On tap at the 2007 GABF: Transparent amber copper with a dense, frothy light tan head. Lightly sweet caramely malty nose has good bourbon oaky character. Body starts fairly full with a light caramely malty sweetness and rich bourbon balance with a hint of butterscotch toward the drier, oaky finish. A pretty nice beer.

Color is a deep amber with a slight haze and a very fine sediment. Carbonation is good producing a small tight head. Aroma of coffee and oak with a hint of whiskey in the back. Taste is rich and caramely. Starting with a medium body it goes down with a rich creamy feel. Finish come in sweet with caramel and vanilla then a light hop flavor and mild bitterness. After taste has a slight oak/whiskey flavor rolling across. This is a tasty brew with a full well rounded flavor.

Bottle courtesy of santa. Pours a nice reddish brown with a small off white head. Aroma is caramel, wood, malt and a touch of whiskey. Flavor is caramel, wood, a light sourness, a touch of whiskey. Fairly light bodied for a barrel aged ale but the sourness and whiskey gives it a nice tang. Different than I expected but still quite enjoyable.

Huge vanilla caramel butterscotch nose. Deep reddish orange with small head. Oaky sweetness is very pronounced, slight bitterness for balance--but so rich! Medium carbonation, smooth long bourbony finish, seems higher alcohol than 5.5% ?. A very interesting and tasty oaked beer, the bourbon notes are great, definitely worth trying.

Draft @ brewpub: Fiery red pour with a small, diminishing head. A light whiskey note is evident in both the nose and body, adding an interesting element to the brew. The body also shows notes of wine, molasses, caramel, nut and toasted malts. I wish the body was a little more full, and these flavors were combined a bit more. This shows quite a bit of promise.

Bottle. Pours clear mahogany with a small, fizzy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is average malt (caramel, bread, cookie), light hops (flowers), average yeast (dough) with notes of dates, oak, vanilla, and whiskey. Medium bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a chalky finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness.
