BeerandBlues2 (3198), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Nov 8, 2009 Draught. Pours dark brown with a large, creamy light brown head, mostly lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toffee), light hop (herbs), average yeast (dough, leather) with notes of roasted pumpkin, date, wood, vanilla, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Medium bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and an astringent finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. mj (4971), Colorado, USA Nov 16, 2008 Draft at the brewery. Muddy unfiltered brown colored body with a finely-bubbled dirty tan head, creamy and frothy in appearance. Nose of meaty stewed pumpkin squash, a hint of munich and caramel malt and a light spiciness, seems to lean more towards an actual pumpkin ale than a pumpkin spice ale which so many breweries try to pull off these days. Medium thickness, smooth texture, well-attenuated, creamy, soft on the palate. Stewed pumpkin meat and various spiced vegetal squash notes abound, the caramel/munich malt sweetness is more pronounced than you find in the nose, and the finish is slightly oily and turns up just a little too sweet right at the end. Hop character is minimal. Overall a surprisingly drinkable and flavorful beer from a brewery that I typically find undrinkable.
