Commercial Description:
Avalon Spiced Ale is one of a series of special limited-run beers in styles that are more extreme or unusual. Avalon is an old word meaning "Apple Island," a place where apples are not always what they seem. No matter the legend, Apples are magic this special ale!

Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Clear nut brown, minimal head. Restrained cinnamon and apple aroma. Fruity sweet and sour flavour. Medium bodied with clean mouthfeel. Light caramel behind apple and spices. Low bitterness. Quite interesting flavour, but the hard, clean malt is not acting to it’s advantage.

22oz bottle, thanks CaptainCougar. Medium off-white head atop hazy amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, apple, some tartness, orange/pear, light spice, alcohol. Taste is moderately sweet, apple, some spice, light alcohol. Effervescent medium body. Cidery beer.

On tap at Capones. Poured a medium and slightly hazy golden color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of, drum roll please, spiced apples. Some citrus too if I dig deep. Tastes of the same spicy apples. If you put this in front of me blind, I would have said, yep, that is a cider.

Pours a transparent copper orange with a frothy, well-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet toasty caramel malt and lots of fresh juicy red apples. Starts with pretty good fullness and sticky sweet caramel apples with some notes of cinnamon and cardamom. Finishes with some sweet and tart apple juice notes. A pretty unique brew.

22 oz bottle. Very bright amber beer. This white head. Aroma is really interesting. Bright spiciness, clove and cinnamon and a bright apple fruitiness. There is a light berryish aroma as well. There is a kiss of maltiness underneath the apple character, but this is mostly about the apples. Floral and a little bit minty with a soft fruity character. Flavour is a little bit disappointing. Sweet and fruity but there is a weird plasticy component that I don’t really care for. It improves substantially as it warms, but it’s still got something strange going on in it.

Picked up at the Binny’s in Orland Park, IL. This could almost be a cider, judging by the aroma and taste. (I’ve sent in a correction to have this changed to a fruit beer instead of spice/herb/vegetable.) It has a clear amber body and a short-lived white head. The aroma is spiced-up apples - some cinnamon, something lightly bitter. A clove-like spiciness is added to the flavor. Interesting, but it’s just as well that this is part of a limited series.

Orange/copper color with a small diminished head of light tan bubbles. Scents of perry and cider. Some mild spices in the background along with something that does not seem very pleasant. A scent that reminds me of apples well past there prime. Candi apple start. with caramel and sweet apples. Dries out slightly in the middle with some cloves and mace. A little bit of tart apples skins near the finish. Perhaps a bit of pale malt in the finish as well that seems to remind me of pie crust. Drinkable, but I keep getting some flavors that just don’t fit well, like pineapple juice that’s been in the can too long. Just not into this one.

Bottle from Belmont Party. Poured clear amber color with a large off-white frothy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate apple cider and spice aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture and lively carbonation. Medium spicy sweet flavor with medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This beer met my expectations and went well with my grilled vegtable soup.
