Commercial Description:
Bare Tress Weiss Beer is a unique Barley Wine Style Ale. It is brewed with 57% wheat, 43% barley, and German hops. We boil the 25.2 Plato wort for three hours. Then we start the fermentation with our Hefe Weizen yeast and finish it with a Scottish Ale yeast. Bare Tree is then oak aged for over one year before its release. The resulting product is extremely complex with flavors of caramel, melon, apricot, vanilla, oak, black pepper, and subtle banana. The flavors come in large part from the raw ingredients and this will vary from year to year. Bare Tree is ready to drink now, but like wine, will age in the bottle for the next several years. So, whether you decide to enjoy a bottle now or wait many years, the Two Brothers family offer a toast: “Within ever bare tree lives the promise of a new life.” CHEERS.

Nice orange color with just a faint haze to it.Small white head that managed to stay around for some time and left a slight lace.Fruity, citrus aroma with a light spice and malty side to it,and maybe just a faint hint of hops, and very sweet as well.very nice taste, wheaty and citrusy with a nice spice content and hops come throught very well. There is a lemony like taste that reminds me of lemongrass. This really doesn't seem much like a Barleywine IMO it has some of the qualities but for the body it seems a bit thin, but oh well it is definately turning out to be a damn fine brew. The after taste is fruity and light, the alcohol comes through only faintly. This brew stays light and tasty throughout the tasting with the alcohol staying well hidden, letting the other flavors take over.I have to thank Nexxus for providing me with this brew and boosting my collection of this vintage to 8 bottles.

I'm finally ready to drink this one...after of some age, this one represents my 730th beer of the year-in an effor to drink 365 different this year, i've doubled that tally with this one. Crystal clear amber colour with strawberry blonde highlights and a thin large-bubbled tan head. Trillions of small bubbles rise from the bottom to showcase the beauty of this still active beer. Great aroma, first reminiscent of apple cider, then champagne, then red wine, then caster sugar. Oddly enough, no malt nor hops are detected in the smell. If I were blindfolded, I wouldn't have been able to tell you that this was beer. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong carbonation; Sweet mouthful, definate vanilla, oak, and bananas dominate the taste. A lot of sweetness up front initially, but then go away down the throat. Aftertaste is very dry with a peppery/astringent quality. This one drinks more like an oak-barrelled chardonnay rather than a barley wine. I really enjoyed it, but it was a bit different than an ordinary barley wine. I am really lucky to have sampled this bottle. Many thanks go out to CaptainCougar for sending me this fantastic 75 cL bottle...as I can enjoy it at the end of my fall quarter here in my senior year at college. Thanks again Tom!

Honey colored, slightly hazy, pours with a large white head. Sweet, yeasty aroma almost like Weizen concentrate. The oak aging adds another layer of complexity to the aroma, it has some qualities that remind me of a merlot. Flavor is fruity, like apricots, banana and tart grape. I think the hops come through with a pepper taste. Finish slight dry. What an interesting and unique brew.

boring compared to the 2000; lacks interesting characteristics, still very smooth and nicely textured.

Rerate: The appearance improved slightly with some lace in this sample. The flavor appeared more blended and smoother, various fruity notes. Overall impression is better, but I'll still stick with the 2000 over this. ORIGINAL: Orange hue with minimum head. no lace. Aroma hinted of ripe fruit, spices, twangy wheat, and alcohol. Sweet and acidic flavors with a spicy undertone. Medium-bodied with a lively and sparky mouthfeel. Moderately alcoholic feel. Not as good as the Vintage 2000 IMO. Another year of cellaring will not improve this beer any.

Light amber color with little head and a sweet alcohol nose. Lots of wood, burnt caramel sweetness, dried fruit. You can taste the wheat in the smootness of the mouthfeel. The alcohol is well hidden until you stand up.

spritzy yeast aroma, dark glowing orange with a finger wide tightly packed head, lots of spiciness especially pepper and clove, creamy and strong, some dry currant notes and dry wheat towards the finish

Cloudy orange/brownish color with a tight white head. The aroma was sweet...apricot/peach, slight hint of garbage, peppermint, vanilla, and woody tones. The flavor was even better...caramel, apricot, alcohol, peppery (not mint), sugary. Nice lighter bubbly feel for a barley wine much to my liking. If I'm gonna drink a 750ml bottle of a barley wine it needs to be not so thick and syrupy. This mouthfeel was perfect.
