Commercial Description:
Bare Tress Weiss Beer is a unique Barley Wine Style Ale. It is brewed with 57% wheat, 43% barley, and German hops. We boil the 25.2 Plato wort for three hours. Then we start the fermentation with our Hefe Weizen yeast and finish it with a Scottish Ale yeast. Bare Tree is then oak aged for over one year before its release. The resulting product is extremely complex with flavors of caramel, melon, apricot, vanilla, oak, black pepper, and subtle banana. The flavors come in large part from the raw ingredients and this will vary from year to year. Bare Tree is ready to drink now, but like wine, will age in the bottle for the next several years. So, whether you decide to enjoy a bottle now or wait many years, the Two Brothers family offer a toast: “Within ever bare tree lives the promise of a new life.” CHEERS.

Poured a hazy amber color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of banana, citrus fruits, caramel malts, and spicy phenols. Taste of wheaty bubblegum, toffee, banana, citrus fruits, and a dry finish.

MN Winter Get Together, 2006. Bottle. Somewhat sour aroma with roasted malt. Hazy amber color; slightly off-white head with no lace. Nice flavor, winey, not very carbonated. Soft palate; nice but a little under carbonated. May have been overaged.

Part of the 2000-2005 6 year vertical. This tied with the 2005 for third place. Poured an almost clear amber color with a small white head. Aroma of aged malt and sweet caramel. The flavor was sweet and malty with toasty caramel and a touch of maple syrup. It tasted like those little syrupy graham cereal stuff. Bitterness on the finish. Finish was "wet"

MN Winter Get Together, 2006: Dark orange color with no head. Strong aroma of wheat and malt, no surprise! The malt really fades away in the taste and is supplanted by a dry wheat. Spicy and yeasty finish, much like Belgian Triple.

Unclear orange colored, disappearing head. Artificial sour aroma of ethanol and soap with a tone of alcohol. Sweet fruit flavor with a sugary edge and orange notes. Flavorfull and not too bad, but definately not my favorite kind of beer.

Clear, amber body with a thin, white head. Intensely sweet caramel nose with all sorts of vanilla, toffee, banana, simple syrup, lots of alcohol, and some mild oaky characteristics. The body is thick, syrupy and full bodied. The light carbonation. The flavor is sweet, almostly cloyingly so. Honey, maple syrup, caramel, vanilla, banana bread and some lightly toasted cereals. This one is enjoyable put definitely pushes the border of tolerable sweetness. The low carbonation makes the heavy body seem even more so. Good, but not the best.

750 mL capped bottle (~4 years old), sampled in a vertical tasting with the ’00, ’02 and ‘03: Starchy white foam sinks into the rim of the glass, but remains consistent. Sweet honeycomb and perfumed aroma (much sweeter than the others sampled) with a large share of aperitif-like alcohol. Palate is a bit thin and soft with an ever-so-slight sugary, grain texture. Sour malt flavours are a bit overwhelming, but the background is filled with bit of grass, soft toasted wheat and bitter honey. I never quite got over the sweetness of this one….but it was still an integral part of the whole experience…

An unclear orange beer with an orange head. The aroma is sweet with strong wood notes - slightly towards port wine. The flavor is sweet with notes of prunes, wood, and alcohol. I miss more complexity.
