Commercial Description:
Bare Tress Weiss Beer is a unique Barley Wine Style Ale. It is brewed with 57% wheat, 43% barley, and German hops. We boil the 25.2 Plato wort for three hours. Then we start the fermentation with our Hefe Weizen yeast and finish it with a Scottish Ale yeast. Bare Tree is then oak aged for over one year before its release. The resulting product is extremely complex with flavors of caramel, melon, apricot, vanilla, oak, black pepper, and subtle banana. The flavors come in large part from the raw ingredients and this will vary from year to year. Bare Tree is ready to drink now, but like wine, will age in the bottle for the next several years. So, whether you decide to enjoy a bottle now or wait many years, the Two Brothers family offer a toast: “Within ever bare tree lives the promise of a new life.” CHEERS.

Strong aroma of brandy, some port and some alcohol. Hazy orange colored beer, no head. Sweet flavor, some yeast and very alcoholic. Strange brew!

Bottled: Golden coloured. Hazy. Beige dense head. Sweet, fruity and light spiced nose. Seeems a little off. Flavour is quite smooth, has some alcoholnotes and fruits. Ends on a light fruity note with some bitterness. Is quite dry.

Bottle: Marmalade in color, very cloudy, lots of sediment, moderate off-white head, spotty lacing.   Slight tart nose, sour on a very minor scale, with hints of apple cider.   Strong apple cider like base, smooth, yeasty/bready.   Perfect on this hot day.   Big body and mouthfeel.   Clean finish, tart and sour.   ABV is well hidden.   Not as floral or spicy as later years, but very smooth and yummy!   Thanks Tom!

Nose is orange, apple juice, apricot, frosting. Cloudy gold color. Thin head. Taste is wheaty, fruity, alcohol. Finish is fairly clean with an alcohol burn. Pretty good.

One of the best aromas of any beer I have ever had. This was in my basement for over a year, in the dark. It exploded out of the bottle as soon as the cap was partially removed. Immediately an outstanding aroma of wheat, fruit, and white wine. Orange, cloudy, with some sediment and a head that remains until the end of the beer. Alcohol is hidden well in the flavor, but here the beer disappoints. There is a minor herbal character and the taste of Belgian yeast. Overall it is too dry for my taste. I prefer a sweeter barleywine. Heavy palate; great, smooth mouthfeel.

750ml bottle provided by and shared with clarkvv on 4/30/2005: Huge yeast cake in the bottom of the bottle. Reddish amber body with a small tan head that quickly dies. Aroma: apple cider, pears, plums, apricots, acidic wheat, caramel, sherry. Almost totally devoid of carbonation, thin and watery, with bits of sediment noticable. Flavor is lightly oxidized with age to show sherry, acidic wheat, sour wheat, vanilla, orange, apple, caramel, lightly spicy alcohol notes come through just a bit.

Popped the top and boom went the fizz. When I got it in my snifter, we’re looking at a hazy, unfiltered orange concoction with some floating sediment. No head on this one. Smells of apples, pears, candy sugar and Bavarian yeast. Now there’s a unique taste - weiss elements are most predominant and are met with a cast of citrus, vanilla, cloves and pepper. Sweet and spicy. Caramel candy drops. Hints of honey-soaked, fried bananas. Some alcohol manifests in the finish, but it’s remarkably cloaked. Damn good. Now if I can only practice patience in opening my 2002...
