| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Feb 1, 2003 Amber in color with very little carbonation. It has a rye-like aroma and is semi-sweet with bread crust and slightly toasted characteristics. Yeast, clove, slight banana flavors at first, but fades into alcohol, candy, green apples and maltiness. Quite complex and more of an imperial weissbier than anything. Good points for creativity here and it reminds me of some Belgian beers I've sampled before. Great beer, my favorite of the night. CaptainCougar (5520), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Feb 2, 2003 Heavy wheat malt aroma and bready yeat profile. Looks like a normal wheat beer, but tastes far beyond that. Extremely complex flavor palate is lightly fruity with apricots, honey, and Hallertauer hops all balanced with a mellow sweetness. The mouthfeel is thick and syrupy, but not overwhelming. It's like they made a barleywine using wheat malt and German hops. To top it off, the alcohol is masterfully hidden. This is truly a unique brew and a must try if you can get your hands on a bottle. JMerritt (1321), Macomb, Illinois, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 5, 2003 The bottle I cracked open has been aging 2 years. Pours a medium orange color with a moderately sized white head. Excellent lacing. Very mild, citric aroma, and lightly floral. Flavor is sweet like ripened fruit. Finish is mildly hopped, and only there does the wheat rear its head. Definitely a good barley wine after aging for a couple years. I didn't have the pleasure of tasting this when it was young, so I can only speculate that aging has mellowed it out trememdously, and brought out many wonderful, sweet flavors. Excellent. | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jun 26, 2004 Awesome beer. A wheat beer lover’s dream. No alcohol bite for a 10% beer. A thick wheaty flavor, no clove, but malty and wheaty. Awesome. Oak highlights in flavor. Full bodied and well balanced. I’m impressed. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Feb 3, 2007 Pours a hazy straw amber. Very carbonated with a thick, soft head of nearly white foam. Fantastic lacing. Honey malt, caramel malt, and citrus in the aroma.
Great wheat and sweet caramel malt flavors. Now throw in oak, pepper, and vanilla. There’s a spicy bitterness in the finish like noble hops and black tea.
Full body, full carbonation (an understatement). exceptionally smooth, mellow, and flavorful. The alcohol is so well hidden that I uh well man you know it just um creeps up and ahhh...
A world class beer! raindog (559), Evansville, Indiana, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 26, 2002 CLOUDY,darker-oarnge,with heavy carbonation.Bubbles constantly rising to the milky,long-lived head.Complex aroma is one for the record books and is everchanging.Starts out apple, whisky barrel, mustiness. As progresses the vanilla, oak, and fields of wheat arouse the senses.Flavor not as complex as aroma. In this case that is not a bad thing.Spritzy, medium full palate.Flavors are delicate and require close attention.Sweet then acidic with toasty finish(Scottish yeast)at first.Like aroma flavors are also changing.Huge melony, musty, caramel flavors are followed by a softer, more hoppy, finish.Herbal german hops. This not what I was expecting. It is my third tasting of this year and it SURELY gets better every time.A real winner!!!! jayme9874 (756), Hamburg, New York, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 15, 2002 Murky amber/orange with particles throughout. Thin creamy head. Insane aroma of pineapple, vanilla, banana, yeasty must, spices and much more. Reminds me of aventinus. Relatively thick bodied, oh man, mouth is bombarded with flavors. starting with vanilla, banana, luscious malt, caramel, cloves maybe (the hefe yeast strain used seems very evident), peppery spices that lace the tounge. The palate is very stiff at first then the carbonation adds lushness halfway through. Flavors intertwine wonderfully. Slightly moderate hopping and drying at the end, just enough to cut through sweetness of this gem. Alcohol is felt and rarely tasted. A kickass concoction, unlike any of the style I ever tried. Very much of a cross breed of styles. Seek this out! Thank you Psychprof.
