HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Oct 26, 2009 Bottle ( 500ml ). Shared with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc and mabel - my bottle. Hazy orange pour with a large lasting creamy/frothy off-white head, some floaties. Unique aroma - and this at the end of a tasting! - alcohol, pungent green fruit (mango?) - with latex paint and nectarines; somewhat floral. Taste was very, very appealing - juicy, floral, medium+ alcohol - like a barleywine, but less bitter, quite a different malt profile too. Light and airily lively mouthfeel, not too strong, but lets you know its ABV is no joke - lively and fruity, and very very good - I want to try this again one day. 2006 Vintage bottle. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Oct 25, 2009 2008 Vintage:
Cloudy golden coloured body with a light copper tint and a nice sized tan head. Aroma of pit fruits, spice, wheat, bubble gum, oak and a good amount of malt. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong alcohol flavours with a good pit fruit taste coupled with wheat and a touch of hops too. Aftertaste shows a potent taste, but the alcohol leaves the palate warm and dry - the sugars come through at the very end rather nicely. Overall, a good barley wine and definitely a treat to sample. I sampled this 37.5 cL (split) bottle purchased at Half Time in Poughkeepsie, New York on 11-June-2009 sampled in Washington on 17-October-2009. ucusty (1865), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Oct 24, 2009 Vintage 2008. Muddy orange pour with a fizzy off white head. Fruit and alcohol aroma. Sweet & malty flavor up front. Finish is dry and fruity. A nice spicyness lingers after the finish JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Oct 22, 2009 375ml from Capone’s, Norristown. Deep burnt gold pour, with a quickly fading head of crisp fizz (only a modest scrim of bubbles remains detectable). Lots of green apple in the nose, much to my surprise, along with some unripe melon. Strange, as I was expecting far more sweet and heat. Crisp and almost like an undercarbonated cider in terms of both mouthfeel and taste. A hint of pepper in the dry finish, perhaps from the yeast that emerges slowly. Not what I expected from the white tree of Gondor, but pretty enjoyable even if it eludes expectations. chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 17, 2009 Bottle from the 2008 batch. Pours hazy orange with a thin head. Aroma of fruit, sweet malt, and a little bit of citrus hops. It is initially bitter, but very good flavor. I can’t believe it is 11%, the ABV is very well hidden. blankboy (3157), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 9, 2009 Bottle [750ml] shared with HogTownHarry, garthicus, GregClow, jerc & mabel -- c/o HogTownHarry.
