Commercial Description:
This unique Barley Wine Style beer is brewed iwth 57% wheat, 43% barley, and German hops. We boil the 25.2 Plato wort for three hours. Then we start the fermentation with our Hefe Weizen yeast and finish it with a Scottish Ale yeast. Bare Tree is then oak aged for over one year before its release. The resulting product is extremely complex with flavors of caramel, melon, apricot, vanilla, oak, black pepper, and subtle banana. The flavors come in large part from the raw ingredients and this will vary from year to year. Bare Tree is ready to drink now, but like wine, will age in the bottle for the next several years. So, whether you decide to enjoy a bottle now or wait many years, the Two Brothers family offer a toast: "With every bare tree lives the promise of a new life." CHEERS. The 2002 vintage was aged in whisky and wine barrels.

2006 Vintage. Poured a slightly hazy medium orange color with a white head. Aroma was of cotton candy, green apple Jolly Rancher candy, and a hint of caramel. Sweet on the tongue with a warm splash of alcohol. Full bodied with rum soaked apple, caramel, and subdued molasses flavors. Pretty tasty.

Vintage 2005. Pours murky, dark gold, with barely any head. Lack of carbonation even with an exaggerated pour lead to only partial coverage of white foam. Aromatics are funky and fruity. Soured apple pulp, caramel, honey, and plenty of lactic tinge. The mouthfeel is medium, sticky, and syrupy. This beer has gone seriously lactic on the pallet. Sour and more funk. Bruised and fermenting apples, vinegar-spiked apricots, lemon zests and cherry pits. Reminiscent of a flanders red or a tame lambic. Alcohol is warming, but is barely noticable alongside the tart nature. Finishes sour and fruity. While if this were intentionly funkified and barrel aged with bugs, it could have been pretty good. Unfotunately though, I’m assuming that this is a contamination issue in the bottle. Hense, some low marks for a rather enjoyable funk-brew.

2005 vintage. 750 ml bottle from Gregis
Pours a light amber with a bit of haze. Small amount of whire head.
Light aroma with some cantalope, peach, oak, and sugary notes.
The flavor is also like a sugary melon. Fairly hoppy with a semi-sweet finish.
Light body. Plenty of carbonation.
I’m glad that I got the chance to try this. I may try to get another bottle.

I traded for this 2006 and saw it later more widely in the good stores. It was not the sweetness of a very wheat beer, but it was lighter than a barleywine. Well hopped. Not very complex, but certainly tasty and consistent distinct characteristic of its wheat-barley taste regardless of warming up or what dish it was paired with. Gorgeous peach colour. Complete mouthfeel. 2008 edition was a nice dry wheat yet not drying.

25 oz bottle, 2002 Vintage, via jsquire. Pours a clear (on first pour) dark gold body with lots and lots of active carbonation. A large 3 finger white head tries to climb out of my glass. The aroma is quite heavy with lots of wet hay, sweet fruits like pear and pineapple, light alcohol, fluffy yeast, and black pepper. The flavor might indicate some light infection or maybe just some yeast autolysis due to a fairly prominant plasticy or rubbery note. Beyond that, lots of sweet honey like wheat, light colored caramel, light alcohol, and yeast. Mouthfeel is full bodied, fairly thick, yet not sticky or cloying from sweetness. A little doughy clinginess on the finish. Too much fizzy carbonation. Overall, this was OK, but maybe a little past it’s prime? I did appreciate the fact that it wasn’t overly sticky or cloying like many other Wheat Wines.

Bottle 2005. Body-very beautiful dark copper with 1 inch surprisingly foamy head with heavy lacing. Looks lie how you would picture a perfect looking IPA. Nose-Jolly Rancher Green Apple, woody, vinous, cough syrup. Taste-WOW! Strawberry Pop Tarts all the way through, cheap Chardonnay, medium alcohol, strawberry jam, very light cheap watered down bourbon, blueberries, perfect CO2 mouthfeel. Very interesting mix of winey and boozy and berries. Despite all these usually sweet flavors, this beer is neither too sweet or too boozy. Perfect palate-not too sweet or sharp with good acidity.

2003 750ml from Shigadeyo! Nose of lemon, spices, and overripe bananas, the bananas must be the weissen aspect; cloudy copper with a huge yellow head; falvor of honey, apples and nectarine fruitiness, caramel, peppery spiciness, and some caramel. Very different BW, but very good!
