Commercial Description:
This unique Barley Wine Style beer is brewed iwth 57% wheat, 43% barley, and German hops. We boil the 25.2 Plato wort for three hours. Then we start the fermentation with our Hefe Weizen yeast and finish it with a Scottish Ale yeast. Bare Tree is then oak aged for over one year before its release. The resulting product is extremely complex with flavors of caramel, melon, apricot, vanilla, oak, black pepper, and subtle banana. The flavors come in large part from the raw ingredients and this will vary from year to year. Bare Tree is ready to drink now, but like wine, will age in the bottle for the next several years. So, whether you decide to enjoy a bottle now or wait many years, the Two Brothers family offer a toast: "With every bare tree lives the promise of a new life." CHEERS. The 2002 vintage was aged in whisky and wine barrels.

On tap at the Map Room. Had the idea of the 2001 in my head when I had this, and this almost lived up to it. Cloves and spice. Fair amount of carbonation. A little yeasty, which is good.

2005 version. Clear peachy orange. Nose wheat, some clove and spice, alcohol there. Flavor is tart and crisp, bit thick and cloying, some peppermint/spice character. Not that much going on, would have liked more complexity as the 2001 version was lovely.

Poured a very cloudy light peachy color. Fruits in the nose, apples, apricots, funky bananas? Malty flavor rules....some alcohol, but not 11% worth. Vinous, woody notes...I like this one. Yeasty notes are evident....medium bodied....very tasty. I want more of this stuff.

2004 bottle. No where near the 2001 bottles. Nose is a jumble of some soured fruit and a sweet maltiness, shit I like at least a bit of hops . Taste is very non-descript.Sorry

Devilv’ nite at Mullmans. Poured a cloudy yellow with ok head. Nose was weak, as was the flavor. No hops, and not so grest.

Devils night at Mullmans: Pours a lightly hazy medium orange and a nice head. Aroma is light wheat, light hops, and some caramel malt, with a touch of fruitiness. Flavor is a bit toned-down and not as full as I expected for a BW of this strength. Also not as hoppy as many other barleywines or wheatwines like smuttynose.
