Commercial Description:
This unique Barley Wine Style beer is brewed iwth 57% wheat, 43% barley, and German hops. We boil the 25.2 Plato wort for three hours. Then we start the fermentation with our Hefe Weizen yeast and finish it with a Scottish Ale yeast. Bare Tree is then oak aged for over one year before its release. The resulting product is extremely complex with flavors of caramel, melon, apricot, vanilla, oak, black pepper, and subtle banana. The flavors come in large part from the raw ingredients and this will vary from year to year. Bare Tree is ready to drink now, but like wine, will age in the bottle for the next several years. So, whether you decide to enjoy a bottle now or wait many years, the Two Brothers family offer a toast: "With every bare tree lives the promise of a new life." CHEERS. The 2002 vintage was aged in whisky and wine barrels.

2008. dirty brown/orange pour with frothy offwhite head. citrus peel and light spice aroma. super bone dry, but otherwise lacks flavor. there’s a short citrus bite to it, but not a whole lot else. as it warms there are some more spices -- vanilla and nutmeg/allspice -- but very mellow.

Pours golden with a decent head. Aromas of bread, banana, spice, and oak are present. Complex flavor with caramel, spices, vanilla, and oak. Slight acidic bight at the finish.

Had this on draft at Blind Tiger. Delicious and overwhelmingly complex. Poured a rich amber-orange color with a fine, light head. Smelled very fruity. Tasted of many fruits; I detected pear and apple the most. The hefe yeast gave it some nice wheaty elements as well. A really big, strong beer and I enjoyed it immensely.

Bottle (2008). Pours a dark gold that is fairly clear but does hold a few floaties and suspended things. Head is thin and fizzy... almost nothing after a few seconds. Aromas are weak... a bit of honey and fruit (banana and pear) sweetness is about it... Flavor has a decidedly oxidized edge to it (although this seems to subside as it warms and breathes a bit), but does have a fairly nice and diverse amount of fruit flavors mixed together. Pears, peaches, honey bananas, etc. with a little bit of a peppery kick in the finish. Alcohol is obvious and poorly hidden. It is a little on the astringent side of things, too. This got consistently better as it warmed...

Tap at BT, 2008. Aroma extremely wheaty with light orange notes and a bit more lime. Flavor lemony and wheaty coupled with barley wine sweetness and nice candied apple. Pretty nice.

2008 version on tap at Blind Tiger. Pours a super cloudy pumpkin-orange with a white head. A little frightening looking actually. Aroma is largely of wheat with some yeast and light spices. Flavor of orange peel, sweet Belgian yeast, sweet fruits. Very sweet, more like a BSA to me. Enjoyable. 7/4/7/4/14 (3.6/5)

Draft at Blind Tiger. Pours a hazy orange with minimal white head. Aroma has some surprising hefeweizen-like notes of banana, lemon, and clove with some pineapple and mango to boot. Flavors of pineapple, malt, and spiced chai, with a subtle banana finish. Smooth and creamy. Not what I expected out of a barely wine, but this was a pleasant surprise.
