Commercial Description:
This unique Barley Wine Style beer is brewed iwth 57% wheat, 43% barley, and German hops. We boil the 25.2 Plato wort for three hours. Then we start the fermentation with our Hefe Weizen yeast and finish it with a Scottish Ale yeast. Bare Tree is then oak aged for over one year before its release. The resulting product is extremely complex with flavors of caramel, melon, apricot, vanilla, oak, black pepper, and subtle banana. The flavors come in large part from the raw ingredients and this will vary from year to year. Bare Tree is ready to drink now, but like wine, will age in the bottle for the next several years. So, whether you decide to enjoy a bottle now or wait many years, the Two Brothers family offer a toast: "With every bare tree lives the promise of a new life." CHEERS. The 2002 vintage was aged in whisky and wine barrels.

Tap at Blind Tiger: Murky headless orange. The aroma is thick & wheaty with some lemon tartness and a touch of clove. Creamy & substantial body. Slightly tart wheaty notes with a cakey character to the body. Some residual lemony citruses and clove phenols. Pretty decent and lean for a Barley Wine of that ABV. Highly drinkable.

2008 Bottle - Thanks NobleSquirrel! - Pours a pale brown with a small head...aroma is quite an interesting combination, cotton candy, booze, tropical fruit, caramel and a bit of spice...flavour is smooth, with very fine carbonation...aged fruit, booze, nice grainy sweetness, somehow comes off light in spite of the gravity...tasty...

Honestly, I didn’t like this beer. Interesting appearance with odd chunks of various flotsam perhaps fruit in addition to the yeast. The aroma was sweet with some skunky fruit. The flavor was an off balance combination of fruit and dry that seemed to go nowhere. Ugly dryness with a bit of dirt and sickly maltiness, and cloying wiess failure glued on around the edges. I’m sure it was a good effort and I’m glad to see that someone liked it. If you like Barley Wine, this is not a very good example. It might be worth laying down as the overall effect is of something raw.

This poured a hazy yellow golden color with a big white head. Aroma was lots of spices, fruity, peppery and hints of alcohol too. Flavor was wheaty a bit sweet, some spices and a hint of citrus too. This stuff is really complex and overall really good stuff.

In short: A fruity barley wine with weird/off fruity flavours. Drinkable.
How: Bottle 750ml. 2007 vintage. Consumed when 1.5 year old
The look: Clear dark golden body topped by a small off-white head
In long: The nose is sweet and fruity with weird notes of white-grapes. The taste is fresh fruits in caramel. The body is pleasant but far from decadent like top American barley wines. The fresh fruits flavour (citrus and friends) is mostly ok although a bit unusual for the style with notes of pineapples. But really kills this beer is an annoying white-grape sourness. Fortunately this is not a very tasty beer so it remains drinkable despite some off flavours. Maybe I should try other vintages. Not a bad beer. This is a different beer, almost unusual, this isn’t your average barley wine. This is your below average barley wine.

2008 bottle. Pours a fizzy orange color, decent amount of carbonation. On a hot humid night like tonight this definitely hits the spot. Flavors of banana, ripe fruits, wheat and roasted barley. Finishes dry with notes of German hops present. This is 11% ABV? Damn, the alcohol is very well hidden. Complex yet simple, heavy but light. This beer is many things at once, but comes together in a homogeneous way. Nicely done.

2008. Pours a very hazy lemon golden yellow with very very light white. Aroma is caramel and peach and apricot. Flavor is brown sugar, sweetened apricots and wheat. Body is creamy with mild carbonation. Best take on barley wine.
