Commercial Description:
Bonfire Dunkle Weiss is one of a series of special limited-run beers in styles that are more extreme or unusual. This one’s a unique dark wheat beer with a delicious toasty character, just like fall. We brought the chocolate, so don’t forget the marshmallows! ""Bonfire Dunkle Weiss is a big, toasty and chocolaty version of our Ebel’s Weiss. This beer has subtle clove, banana, vanilla, and caramel notes along with a nice malt sweetness. It is perfect for those cool fall nights. We bring the chocolate you bring the marshmallows.""

Murky brown with a large, marshmallowy off-white head with nice staying power. Nutty aroma rounded out by raosty malts followed with hints of toffee and caramel. Semi-sweet flavor, some bittersweet cocoa, nuts and a mild roast. Finish is sweet (caramel) and slightly alcoholic. Nice soft carbonation level. I did not pick up on many of the traditional dunkelweizen characteristics (no banana notes to be had), but still a tasty brew.

On draught at the brewpub. Cloudy, medium brown pour with a thin, foamy tan head, a soft chocolatey nose and yeasty chalkiness. Medium body, some banana, clove, cinnamon and cherry, along with chocolate. Muddy and soft finish. Interesting, but not a spectacular example of the style.

On tap at the Grumpy Bulldog in Naperville. Pours a dull and dark brown. Pretty hazy looking. Big, fluffy, light tan head that remains pretty lacy and dissipates slowly. Aroma is sour. Smells like expired fruit, yeasty, wheaty, lemony. I was expecting a "bonfire" smell, or at least some roasted/smoked grains and got none. Flavor is similar. Very sour and sweet malts. Again, no real chocolate or roastiness. Body is medium to full, oily, and slightly dry. Overall, a disappointing beer. I dont know if it was just a bad batch, but there was no "fire" to this one. Avoid.

Bottle. Foggy brown pour with a head size tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, yeast and banana. Similar flavor with some sweet maltiness and a touch of chocolate. Nice smooth malty mouthfeel with just enough carbonation in the finish. Very nice beer.

22 oz. bottle via trade with tytoanderso - Pours a hazy brown color with a small light tan head. No lacing. Has a burnt orange aroma. Probably one of the strongest aromas Ive come across in a DW. Flavor is toasted and roasted wheat and esters. I didnt get much of the banana and cloves or chocolate. Medium body. Im not really sure what to make of this beer. Never the less, it tastes OK. Thanks Tyler.

22oz bottle (Binny’s Naperville)-A dark almost black body with a nice small tan covering for a head. Aroma of yeast, banana, caramel, and slight vanilla. Taste begins with banana, wheat, and some chocolate then it finishes with a tanginess. This medium bodied brew is good but lacking the banana and clove just as the previous review said. Still tasty.

Pour is an almost black with a small tan head. Aroma is somewhat smoky with a nice roasted malt. Flavor has a nice clove to start out with then follows with some malty sweetness. Not really as complex as some others i have had of this style and it was really missing the money shot combo of a rich clove and banana. Its there but its not as strong as i would have liked.
