Had this one bottled. Deep brown in color and quite opaque with a thin head, nose of cold coffee, tastes of nutty chocolate and coffee. Highly drinkable and very different from many brown ales.

Pours a mild brownish with small white head. Aroma full of malt and nut. Taste similar but with a small hop kick to it. Nothing real special here, just your average drinkable ale.

Dark mahoganey... thin soapy off-white head. Aroma is sweet creamy caramel. Taste has dry buttery and caramelly cereal with some mild crisp hops. Not bad... but uninteresting.

Pours a clear, nutty brown with a short tan head that soon transforms into a halo. It has a mildly sweet malt aroma with a whiff of herbal bitterness. Medium to light bodied, it has a grainy, sweet malt taste, very mild. A touch of the hops make themselves known in the finish.

On tap. Looks dark and thin. Smells like a barnyard (straw and oats) and rye malts. Tastes deflated, of rye bread and like it’s been slightly smoked. Fairly one-dimensional.

Bottle, best by 9/1/05. Very dark brown body. Dusty crystal malt aroma with some chocolate malt notes. There might be some floral hops but they’re barely noticable. The flavor is also malt-centric with the dry caramel and chocolate tones. Not much in the hop department. Quite dull. If RB didn’t have a hedonistic rating system this would get a better score out of me, but as I drink this I instead think about the SNCA in my fridge.
