Nutty, a tiny bit sweet - the antithesis of the overhopped, citrus laden American IPA's that are so prevalent. Recommended to brown ale lovers everywhere! mikeben (344), Naperville, Illinois, USA

It was smoky and slightly bitter with no bad aftertaste. I like it much better then Newcastle Brown. It does have an almost sweet coffe-chocalte taste but is real subtle. Two brothers makes great beer. It's good chilled and slightly warm. This session ale made me enjoy a brown beer for the first time. Not as good as trhe Monarch or Ebelweiss as it is still not my favorite style Nightoneobob (37), USA

The aroma is a toasty coffee/chocolate/caramel mix with a touch of dry cocoa powder-like notes. The body is a dark ruddy brown and holds a rapidly diminishing, wispy tan head. Lots of sweet caramel, choclate and coffe with some peanut skin notes and a dry, but lingering malty sweetness in the finish. Very intense flavor concentration. It really packs the tastebuds with gobs of flavor...primarily the coffee notes, but some sweet dark fruit, chocolate, nuts, cocoa and caramel are there as well. This is very tasty and has a damn nice mouthfeel. I haven’t had enough Milds to know if it is a good Mild, but it’s a damn tasty brown ale/light porter and I think most everyone in this thread is insane to rate it so low. This beer tastes great. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 19, 2006 Bottle, best before 8/7/06, drunk on 3/16/06 Sandy-beige head never falls below cover, with minor lace in small, blotches. Clear, coppery-orange colored body, with only a light brown color in the center. Graham crackers and a dry whole wheat toastiness give open the aroma with a crunchy, dry, toasty note, allowing a light honey and mild chocolate note to slowly creep in and soften things. Dry, lightly burnt wood notes (very faint) keep things piquant. Medium strength. Milky chocolate, with light peanut brittle immediately balancing. Light touches of buttercream, light, watery coffee add complexity with a hint of diacetyl that is very welcoming and soothing. Probably the most successful part of this low gravity session beer is the very low carbonation allowing the malts to adequately soothe the palate, remaining creamy enough to allow plenty of flavor to set in. No hops, no alcohol. Earthy, dry, roasted malt notes prevent it from ever getting too sweet. Very balanced, very drinkable. Successful on many levels. Just a bit watery, otherwise. gws57 (1137), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 17, 2005 Had this one bottled. Deep brown in color and quite opaque with a thin head, nose of cold coffee, tastes of nutty chocolate and coffee. Highly drinkable and very different from many brown ales. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 2, 2003 Sweet nutty roasted malt aroma. Medium brown with a thin cream-colored head. Fairly complex and well-rounded, this beer balances a good variety of malts with light bitterness and even some sour notes. The smooth body finishes a roasted sweet and sour. More brewers need to make good session ales.
