Commercial Description:
Cane and Ebel is one of a series of special limited-run beers in styles that are more extreme or unusual. This unique red rye beer is full of hop flavor and aroma. We add 35 pounds of Thai palm sugar to each batch. The sugar does not add much sweetness to the beer, but rather a fruity and vanilla-like flavor. A new hop variety called Summit is really showcased here. This 18%AA hop is also very aromatic which gives a pungent citrus aroma. Then we heavily dry hopped the beer with Simcoe.

Bottle: Dark copper colored pour with no head. Sweet caramel and mild notes of rye malt in the nose with notes of earthy, piney hops. Somewhat thin in body. Big harvest-like flavor with the resin hop notes accentuating it throughout. Dry, caramel malt presence with an herbal/anise backdrop to finish it off. Re-rate: Draft at the local pub...pretty much everything previously noted is identical except that their is much more depth and the body is much fuller. Much, much better on draft. Rating reflects tap version.

Pours a dark amber color with thick white foamy head that fades quickly leaving a good amount of lacing. Aroma is pungent citrus hops, rye, and malt. Taste is earthy resinous hops, light fruit, rye, and malt. Finish is slight dry and bitter. Overall a good brew.

12oz bottle. Pours dark brown with burgundy highlights, off-white, somewhat sticky head with good lace. Smells hoppy sweet, earthy, and citrusy. Tastes of a great mix of hop and malt fruitiness and sweet sugariness. Medium body with subdued carbonation.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a small dense off white head. The aroma is sweet fruity hoppy and rye. The flavor is hoppy, but less than the nose, good rye flavor, sweet caramel malt, and fresh fruits. I really enjoy a good rye beer. Medium bodied, very easy to drink. I only picked up a single and might have to get more.

bottle. Nothing special. Drinkable, hoppy but not over the top with hops. Okay.

bottle courtesy of drewbeerme. Thanks!!
Pours mostly clear dark copper to maroon with a long lasting sticky offwhite head that leaves good lacing. Smell is sharp hoppy zesty rye and some light sweetness. Smells fantastic! Taste is moderately hopped and bittered with a really nice rye flavor, and some good finishing fruity caramel sweetness and a light lingering bitterness. Taste is really nice, noticeably rye-like and is extremely drinkable. Delicious! Thanks Andrew!

Quite dark body with a medium tan head. Not much retention. Aroma is hop. Flavor is somewhat like an APA. It is highly hopped with plenty of caramel and a bitter hop aftertaste. But there is a different flavor early in the sip. It has a short lived vanilla spiciness and the feel is more creamy than resiny. Interesting beer to sample and another good offering from Two Brothers.
