Draught at Pub in Ida Noyes. One of my favorite beers. Deep red with white head, that disappears fairly quickly to thin lacing. Aroma is complex and spicy, like a kick to the nose. The flavor is fantastically complex. Citrus, spice, and a little caramelly malt at the end. Good bitterness right in the middle. Not overly sharp with very long flavor profile, well balanced with malts and has slightly sweet after-taste. I have had this in both bottle and draught numerous times, and draught has better head retention and smoother palate (maybe just my pour?), but both are very good.

On tap at the Hop Leaf: I would drink this beer every day if that were possible. When I ordered it, I took one sip and handed it to my friend. Me: Try this. It’s a red. It’s better than Evil Dead Read. <skeptical look> And also YuleSmith Winter. <angry look.> Him: <drinks> <Long pause> That is really... quite excellent. I think what sets it apart is the very slight apple flavor that gives a balance most reds simply don’t have. Remarkable. In bottles from Liquor Stop: the malt bitterness takes over and it is not as good. On tap Map Room: New batch is a Pale Ale Brewed with Rye. It tastes like exactly that. Not as exciting as the brilliant Red it once was.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper/amber color with a decent sized white head. Aroma of floral & citrus hops, some malt and a dash of vanilla. Pnie comes through more in the flavor for me along with the citrus, definitely a good malt presence which lends some sweetness. Light-to-med bodied. Easy to drink.

22oz bottle. Poured a clear copper-light brown color. Head was thick and off white with decent retention and lacing. Attractive aroma of flowery hops and malty caramel. There was also some chocolate in the nose. Dry up front with delicate sweetness at the end. Earthy and somewhat chocolatey flavor with plenty of supporting flowery hops and a hint of vanilla. Hop bitterness peaked at about 4-5 out of 10. I liked this one quite a bit.

ruby amber pour with a good head. sweet arma with grassy and citrus hops. nutty malted flavor with a nice hop bite on the sides. pleasently balanced and tasty.

Pours dark glistening ruby with a thin, ivory head. Aroma of sweet citrus, mango, toffee, and vanilla. Taste is mango, pine, spruce, toffee, and resinous plastic. Mouthfeel is full bodied, resinous with lively carbonation. Has a very nice hoppiness from the Simcoe.

GABF 2007: Poured a clear copper color with an off-white head. Piney hop aroma with some sugary malt. The flavor was a mix of nutty and toffee malt with some pine. Light-medium body.

Red amber with big, foamy tan head / Spicy, caramel, malt nose / Medium body with malt and hops, and good finish / Flavors of spicy rye, malt, caramel, and apple, with burnt sugar finish / Outstanding.
