Commercial Description:
Cane and Ebel is one of a series of special limited-run beers in styles that are more extreme or unusual. This unique red rye beer is full of hop flavor and aroma. We add 35 pounds of Thai palm sugar to each batch. The sugar does not add much sweetness to the beer, but rather a fruity and vanilla-like flavor. A new hop variety called Summit is really showcased here. This 18%AA hop is also very aromatic which gives a pungent citrus aroma. Then we heavily dry hopped the beer with Simcoe.

22oz bottle from 2006. Poured into Duvel tulip. Color is a murky brown with a thin head of white creamy lace. Aroma is sweet, creamy, caramel, hops, and vanilla. The flavor is well blended mix of lightly spicy hops and sweet caramel. A little bit of apricot fruitiness. I was expecting big disappointment from a hoppy beer this old. Not so - this is quite nice.

Huge hop nose, citrusy. Pours light amber. The flavor is somewhat mild, malty and sweet. Not bad, not bad at all.

Bomber. I wouldn’t exactly call this "extreme or unusual," but its pretty good. Toasty aroma, notes of pungent hops. I can see the palm sugar in the taste, to a degree, also with a lot of 3 Cs hops and a spicy rye note. The rye is quite decently pronounced. Goes down easy.

Bottle: Pours a dark mahogany with a smaller beige head. Nice bits of lacing. Nose is fruity and hoppy with caramel and citrus shining through. Flavor is roasty malt, caramel, citrus, raison, and a little earthy. Nice bitters and quite easy to enjoy. Thanks EithCubes.

Bottle pours a clear mahogany with a small light tan head. Nice lightly woody caramel awoma. Brown sugar. Strong astringent bitter woody favor. Oxidized? Lightly roasted malts. Moderate lingering bitter and lively carbonation.
