Commercial Description:
Cane and Ebel is one of a series of special limited-run beers in styles that are more extreme or unusual. This unique red rye beer is full of hop flavor and aroma. We add 35 pounds of Thai palm sugar to each batch. The sugar does not add much sweetness to the beer, but rather a fruity and vanilla-like flavor. A new hop variety called Summit is really showcased here. This 18%AA hop is also very aromatic which gives a pungent citrus aroma. Then we heavily dry hopped the beer with Simcoe.

Tried on tap. Overall, a good beer, but falls short of its stated style in my opinion. Particularly, it is too thin - lacking enough malt base to compete with other American strong ales. Nevertheless, worth a try.

Bottle. A amber beer with a big off-white head. The aroma is of caramel malt, peach, sugar citric hops, so is the taste. Medium body with a very dry finish. To much peach for my taste.

Pours deep copper with a large off-white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, floral hops, and spices. the flavor is sweet, caramel, spices, brown sugar, citrus, and finishes with a moderate amount of bitterness. Good brew.

This American Strong Ale pours a dark copper color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is caramel malts and floral hops. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are caramel and semi-sweet. The hops are grapefruity and floral. Lots of malts and lots of hops, not sure they balance or clash or anything else. They just sort of hang around as separate taste entities. You can taste the rye spiciness and there is some vanilla like sweetness from the Palm Sugar, but I am not sure that either does much at all for this beer. I think some bottle aging may help the flavors meld a little better. As it is, this beer just doesn’t do much for me. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and clear. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

copper color, light tan head. aroma is sweaty hop. flavor is light hop and not too bitter. hoppy flavor gets stronger and leaves a bitter but cleaner finish.

Clear dark reddish copper with a moderate sized, creamy beige head with hardy lace. Aroma of mellow toasty rye, hints of dark sweet bread, nice floral hops, a bit of cardamom and spice - this one I like more and more as it warms. Toasty, smooth malted rye, sweet, wonderful dry hopped character with floral and mildly cirus mops and a bit of spice. Light to medium body, very subtle carbonation.

22 oz bomber, shared with a friend. Clear red pour. Malty, bready aroma with some rye and also grapefruit citrus notes. Flavor was similar with some caramel malt lurking around as well. Different and good.

22 oz bottle, via holdenn. Pours a clear dark amber to light brown under a foamy two finger beige head. Lots of sticky lacing. Aroma has a nice rye breadiness with a lightly resiny and floral hoppiness. Some sweet caramel and brown sugar (Thai palm sugar apparently) notes. The hops are in the fore on the flavor but then the rye emerges on the finish. Not especially aggressive on the rye, but clearly noticable. It seems slighty hidden by the sugar. Lingering resiny finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a somewhat watery texture that becomes a little sticky on the finish. Moderate soft fizzy carbonation. Pretty nice, the best from 2 Bros. that I’ve had, though I could go for a more aggressive rye flavor.
