Commercial Description:
Cane and Ebel is one of a series of special limited-run beers in styles that are more extreme or unusual. This unique red rye beer is full of hop flavor and aroma. We add 35 pounds of Thai palm sugar to each batch. The sugar does not add much sweetness to the beer, but rather a fruity and vanilla-like flavor. A new hop variety called Summit is really showcased here. This 18%AA hop is also very aromatic which gives a pungent citrus aroma. Then we heavily dry hopped the beer with Simcoe.

Good stuff! The aroma is slightly fruity and sweet and reminds me of soda pop. The flavor has a nice dark bitterness mixed from the rye and the hops, with a sweet tinge that is to be expected from this style. If you didn’t know, you’d almost guess this was a double IPA, but it’s not quite!

Recieved a bottle in a trade. First it seemed like an IPA, but after a few sips, noticed the difference. I dont care for IPA’s, though close, I did like this better. Very red, with tons of hops and bitter as well. better as time went on.

Thanks to Secret Santa! Medium copper brown, slight haze. Aroma was sweet with a citric hop component. Sweet malts, some fruity notes mingled in with the malts that I think might have been the side effect of the palm sugar (might try homebrewing with some in the future). I found the sweetness to somewhat mute what otherwise was a citric hop finish. Nice ASA.

Poured a dark red with a heavy hop nose.Flavor was overly hopped. This was reminding me of a DIPA not an ASA.

Bottle from WInking Lizard. Huge hop aroma with some citrus. Flavor was sweet and lemony up front with a large bitter hop wallop on the end.

Thanks to someone for bonusing this fabulous beer. I’ve seen Two Brothers around but never picked anything up. That may change - they certainly have at least one solid release.

Aroma / Appearance - The ruby red body possessed a chunky layer of head that was slightly off white. Caramel, rye, sweet malt, and warm cherry pie form a bright combination of aromas that perk up the senses.

Flavor / Palate - Sweet caramel chews are the first impression. Soon after comes rye and peanut butter cookies. A residual maltiness highlights a smooth and cohesive mixture of flavors in a way that is so inviting I could almost finish three of these in a night. The finish reminds me of warm angel’s food cake with a drizzle of cherry and caramel icing.

From a bottle poured brown with a small head. Nice hoppy flavor with a lingering sweet finish.
