| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 11, 2009 Bottle at The Winking Lizard into pint - this is my one gripe with the place is everything is poured into a pint and they always pour it badly, what gives?! Anyways...Pours a dark ruby color with an off white ring but no real head (thanks pint glass!).Taste is like a low abv barley wine. Subtle hoppy bitterness in aroma and definitely get the sweetness from the palm sugar in both the nose and flavor but with the alc. more upfront in the flavor. 502Flavors (631), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 10, 2009 Served cellar temp into snifter (Thanks Skinnyguy!). Pours a beautiful dark, but crystal clear, red color with a big creamy frothy off-white head that leaves some nice lace -- though it did take quite a high and aggressive pour to stir up the head. The aroma is richy and full of malty goodness. A warm breadyness, christmas cake, not much hops, some cherries. Flavor is good, though less robust and full. There is more of a hop presence, but it is all hop bitterness, which is alright, but simply throws the beer off balance without any hop flavor. Still enjoyable. Creamy with minimal carbonation and a medium body. Overall: great look, feel, and aroma, which lead the flavor to be a bit of a disappointment. Good beer on the whole though.
