Commercial Description:
This French-style country ale is deep amber in color. With a toasty, sweet caramel start, it finishes with just enough hops to clean off the palate. Bon Appetit!

Medium orange to light brown pour - slightly sparkling - looks nice in the light, soft white head, light - fades quickly. Sweet, toffee like aroma with some biscuity notes. Flavor has hints of caramel, muted citrus and just a hint of sourness. Mouthfeel is tart and tongue coating. Very decent - wish this brewer expanded more across the country. Thanks to Aurelius for this one - part of his Ale-in-the-Mail shipment.

The color of tawny port, lightly carbonated. Nice label. Interesting aroma: Buttery, parched malt, caramel, lightly sweet. Light citrusy hopping, interesting musty/crackery malting, grain bitterness towards the end, diacetyl, moderately sweet and somewhat candied. A little juicyfruit cling on the finish. Silky mouthfeel. Interesting, pretty solid. Ale-in-the-Mail offering Feb 2007. Re-rate: On tap, Clarke St Ale House, Chicago. Grassiness and green nuts came through. Loses CO2 on tap. Mildy astringent finish.

pours a cloudy amber color with a strong one finger off white head. aroma is malt maybe a little roasted? little sweet caramel with raisins and a nice little hops mixed in. has a light to medium body with descent lacing. flavor is lightly roasted malt a little caramel raisins and some hops at the end. it has a nice light carbonation and is a little slick on the tongue. also has a nice little dry aftertaste from the hops to end it all. i also noticed a small bread aroma as it warms not to bad at all!

Pours a clear auburn copper color, quite effervescent, and topped by half an inch of creamy light tan foam. Decent head retention, very good lacing. Mild dry malt and a little spice in the aroma. Dry toasted malt flavor, earthy and even a bit woody. Finishes with a decent supply of hop bitterness, a touch spicy. Medium body, good carbonation. Bitterness lingers in the aftertaste.

Tap at Barcade. Deep golden colour and a creamy white head. Aroma is quite perfumy and spicy showing loads of orange peel, mango and a heavy clovey character. The clove notes however are distinctly different than those normally found in wheat beer/Belgian ales. Maybe a little bit muskier. Strange, but well-integrated. There isn’t any real dustiness or mustiness but the spice is very expressive and fresh-tasting. Creamy texture with some wheaty notes and a fresh grape/cherry aroma as it warms. Malty and sweet but not cloying.

Pours a deep amber with a loose thin white head. The nose is subtle, with caramel malt, light hops, and a gentle fruitiness, perhaps strawberries. The mouth is about right one this beer. Solid substance, a little viscosity, and a bit creamy, just right for the style. The flavors are also very nice and subtle. Caramel malt, with some slightly toasty to nutty aspects. Again, some fruit, but also, now the hops seem to come out as being more herbal. Perhaps slightly minty. This is really very enjoyable, I could see this being a very solid offering for a party.

Bottle, poured a nice orangish copper with a thick white head. Nice aromas, yeasty with a bit of malty sweetness. Bland flavor, seemed like an unimpressive attempt at a Biere de Garde. Slight hop crispness and a boring finish. Ok beer, I wouldn’t search it out, but I wasn’t to bad either.
