Commercial Description:
This French-style country ale is deep amber in color. With a toasty, sweet caramel start, it finishes with just enough hops to clean off the palate. Bon Appetit!

Bottle. Clear amber with a sma head. Aroma is mostly malty. Taste is just dissapointing thou with just the flavor of malty soda water. Some yeastiness but not much at all.

(Bottle) Pours a lightly cloudy bronze body with an average-sized off-white head. Aroma of caramel, florals, and toasted malt. Flavor of toasted malt, cocoa, and toffee with a dry finish.

12oz bottle.
Pours amber-gold with a bare hint of haze, thin white head with little retention or lacing. Aroma is grassy sour, appropriate to the style but not as spicy as more succulent versions of the style. Flavor is grassy, grainy, slightly sour, caramel, and a bit thin. Pleasantly smooth palate, medium mouthfeel. Basically to style but nothing separates it from mid-pack. <P>On tap.
Same basic characteristics as bottle version but with fuller head and sour almost to the point of being unpleasant. Definitely prefer the bottle version, though I’d do just as well to skip both in the future.

(01.13.06) 12 oz brown bottle purchased from DiCarlo’s, Mundelein, IL. 5.9 %ABV. Label states best before 5/17/06. Clear red amber with no discernable head. No discernable carbonation. Caramel and sweet malt aromas. Medium bodied that starts with light malt sweetness and toasty malt and caramel flavors. Finishes dry with light lingering hop bitterness. Well balanced. A very good drinkable ale.

Bottle. Pours a reddish amber with a limited head. Smells of caramel and toast. Sweet fruits on the palate in tandem with a honeyed caramel. Compared to the other Biere de Gardes I have had this represents more of an amber. It was not as lilting as the others of this style I have tasted. Thanks Beervana for the bottle.

Loads of marshmallow in the aroma. An unattractive orangey color. Too malty but not a half-bad brew.

Pours reddish orange with off white head. Nose has a blend of outdoors;earthy, flowerlike and mild hops. Flavor has a mild spicy yet caramel character. There is a noticable fruit presence which transfers to a slight sourness in the finish. Pleasant brew.
