Commercial Description:
This French-style country ale is deep amber in color. With a toasty, sweet caramel start, it finishes with just enough hops to clean off the palate. Bon Appetit!

Copper Coloring with White Ring/Skin. Sweet Roasted Caramel and Light Grains Aroma. Something a Bit Off...Bit Stale in the Aroma...Although Strikingly Similiar to a Bad Sake Aroma. Good Caramel Malt and Wheat Flavor..Wheat and Hops Drying Your Palate at the End, But Not Giving Up the Creamy Medium Mouthfeel. Nice But Nothing Outwardly Wonderful About It.

Pours a very attractive, clear, dark copper with a holding, creamy, yellowhite head. There is light diacetyl in an otherwise appealing aroma of roast grain and light caramel, although the buttery aroma is almost a compliment to the others. Latent notes of violets and field flowers. Flavor finds a malt base which is wheatish and sweet with a caramel lean... and hoppy notes do emerge (as promised) for balance in the finish.

Light orange/amber, highly filtered. Some minmal white head rounds out a very lackluster appearance. Nose is sweet malts and butterscotch, maybe some weird dough notes. Taste is all malts, rather sweet, some toffee and butterscotch here and there. Finishes with a clean hop bitterness. Different.

12oz bottle from JoshuaB. Pours a light orangish/amber color with a small white head. Very clear beer. Nose is caramel malt, lots of butterscotch. Taste is lightly malty with caramel, some light butterscotch here, random candied fruits.

Pours with a three-finger head that fades to a ring leaving some lace. Cloudy amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is a earthy hop. Starts slightly hoppy has an earthy spice flavor, finish is clean, more hops than malts. $1.85 for a 12oz bottle from Julio’s Liquors Westborough, Ma.

The tempting aroma of sweet prunes, toffee and sour grapes is very unusual to me, but this is the first Biere de Garde I have tried. I’m not sure if I’m smelling a fruity yeast esther, but it’s great smelling whatever it is. The sweet caramel malts and loads of fruitiness rush in to quickly fill my mouth on first sip. The body is nicely complex, moving from to sweet to almost sour. An interesting style that I will definitely be searching out.

Clear dark orange body under a small off white head. Perhaps this one is off a bit, but it has a slight vinegar aroma. Some sweetness in the flavor combined with a spritzy dryness and an acidic finish. Nice mouth feel, but not the right flavor to go with it.

Growler from the brewery. Nice copper color. Good balance between malt and hops. Very refreshing. I have no problem finishing the growler off in one siiting.
