Jun 3, 2002 Dark amber; firm body; caramel; deep toasty, rich malt. Earthy, with a hint of nuttiness. Long finish that dries out a bit.

Jul 2, 2003 (draft): Clear copper body with small creamy off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, floral. Taste is same, with minimal bitterness. Medium body. Very pleasant beer.

My first Biere de Garde, one of the 4 beer styles I had yet to sample here on Ratebeer.
Malt and hop aromas. Golden coloured strong in alcohol and rich on the palate. Crisp and slightly dry lasting malt finish.

Mar 9, 2006 Totally clear golden-amber, tiny white head. Not too inspiring to start with. Worse, poorly extracted pils malt generates corny DMS that dulls out the perfumey, fruity, honeyed nose. Lasting fruity flavours are accompanied by unpleasant ascorbic acids, potatoes vegetal flavours and limited tartness. Flat, very watery and highly processed palate. A real shame this, I had been looking for this beer for over a year and it’s a trainwreck in this condition (filtered 12oz) and I’m not gonna be making big efforts to look for other issues.

Jan 26, 2006 (Bottle) Pours a lightly cloudy bronze body with an average-sized off-white head. Aroma of caramel, florals, and toasted malt. Flavor of toasted malt, cocoa, and toffee with a dry finish.

Mar 21, 2003 Updated: Aug 19, 2007Pours a transparent copper with a frothy off-white head. Predominate saaz hop aroma has some toasted caramel notes. Body is smooth and complex, but a little too bitter for the style with some floral, slightly soapy hop character and light fruity esters. Overall, pretty good for an American brewery though.

May 27, 2008 Bottle... Beautiful, clear, amber/copper ale with a small, creamy, off-white head that seems to last forever. Malty, earthy aroma with toffee, caramel, straw and random herbs. Full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and gentle carbonation. Sturdy caramel malt backbone is balanced by medium spicy and herbal bitterness. Also, some essences of fuzzy and tropical fruits. Hearty, moderately bitter finish. Not what I expected. A very pleasant surprise! Big-time thanks to headbanger for floating this bottle my way!
