Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at The Coffee Grounds in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Pour a murky light amber brew with an average off-white head that quickly dissolves to a fine film and ring with some spotty lacing. Aroma of wheat malt, cloves and a touch of banana esters. Taste is light to medium bodied, lightly carbonated with flavors of wheat/multi-grain malt, bubblegum and some banana. Finish has a faint vanilla and banana taste with very light bitterness.

bottle - Pours light, hazy yellow with an ample yeast and citrus aroma. It tastes very yeasty and is lively on the palate, refreshing, and mild. There’s some citrus notes there, but it could have used a bit more noticeable spice character. It’s still a fine hefeweizen though.

Bottle purchased at Corral Liquors in Granite City, IL. Pours a light amber with lots of rising bubbles and a frothy white head. The nose is a dull wheat with faint notes of banana and clove. Light and thin with lively mouthfeel and a lightly astringent finish. The flavor is of sour wheat with banana and clove in the background. Interesting but not great. Mildly metallic in the finish and a bit too sour for my tastes.

This wasn’t a bad hefeweisse, but I can’t help but think (after having my first Schneider Weisse tonight) that American brewers just can’t quite master the German-style weisse beer. This beer is bright yellow with a pretty persistent white head. Aroma is pretty malty for a wheat beer, with some citrusness. This beer is not very clovey for a beer of this style. Maybe it is the lack of spice, the fairly abundant citrusness, the yellow body, or the white head, but this beer really reminded me of lemon merangue.

Not much foam, faint aroma of coriander and other spices. Cloudy yellow, lots of fizz, but does not have as much of a carbonated mouthfeel. A tiny bit citrusy, tastes rather like a Saison, good but a bit weak.

Draught. At Hackneys pub in Chicago. A perfect little beer for a hot humid day after walking around for 2 hours. Light hazy gold, decent white head. Aroma of bananas, sweet candy malt and mild spices - pleasing! Taste is similar, with lemon juice and a bit of caramel to the malt. Light body, weak carbonation - has a quick finish and a slightly paper aftertaste - ultimately just quenching, smelled better than it tasted.

Translucent, foggy gold, thin lacing head. Light nose, which is surprising given the fruitiness of the3 beer. Tangy, bananas-and-cereal flavor. Moderate phenols. Medium light body. FInishes walnut and banana in the high palate. Decent. On tap, Clarke St Ale House, Chicago.

Bottle. Pours a hazy amber hue with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Good wheat and banana aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Medium well balanced spicy flavor with a good sweet finish of moderate duration. Good soft drinkable beer.
