Overpowering citrus and hop aromas. Starts off light and sweet, and ends with a strong hoppy bitterness. Very strong hop flavor, and a surprisingly well masked alcohol throughout. If you like hops, you’ll LOVE this beer. GeneralGao (3076), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 2, 2007 22 oz bottle. Poured a hazy medium orange color. Head was thin and off white with decent retention. Some lace was left behind on the glass at the end and there was some floating debris in the beer. Aroma was of malty caramel with a buttery note. At times it almost smelled like cake batter or vanilla frosting. There was also some pleasant flowery hops. Sweet on the tongue, but balanced by moderate to assertive hop bitterness of about 7 out of 10. The flavor was very earthy with distinct tobacco, some dark wood, a bit of sassafras, and burnt toffee. There was also a decent amount of flowery hop flavor and, surprisingly, only touch of alcohol. Great beer. drawde (115), San Francisco, California, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 15, 2007 Very hoppy, very bitter. I love this beer. Suprisingly smooth considering the absurd amount of hops in it. Just the right amount of body to smooth out the citrus, bitterness, and alcohol without being to sweet. Nice. A hop aroma, some bitter hops to start, but as it breathes and warms, it mellows out nice, with a nice malt balance, good brew! Thanks to Duane for the sample! lordeche (397), Quincy, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 22, 2007 Pours copper with thick, creamy white head. Aroma is hoppy with nice underlying caramel maltiness and slight alcohol. Flavor is quite solid: ice bitter hops, caramel and toffee malt, a bit of toastiness and a little grain. Palate is thick and rich. A delicious double, but not exactly groundbreaking stuff. tytoanderso (1387), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 13, 2007 Bottle. Lots of sweet, resinous hops on the nose. Some sweet malt as well. Pours an oily copper/amber with a creamy white head. Excellent head retention and lacing. Flavor is a pretty straightforward IIPA. Oily hops, sweet malt, nothing too over the top or impressive. Rich and viscous on the palate. A nice long hoppy finish. An average IIPA. TechMyst (166), Fox River Grove, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 5, 2007 Slick palate. Serious hop sting. 100 IBU’s but not out of control; alcohol is masked well. Murky amber with deep ruby hue. Minimal head (I pour VERY slow) no retention on the honey yellow head. Medium mouthfeel. Conditioning is not harsh at all, and no bloating either. Well balanced. Laced in wispy rings. Like Maharaja / Dreadnaught. Very drinkable; LOVE it!
