Bittersweet, malty, and very hoppy flavor with hints of sweet cherry at the end. Very nice lace. Good mouth feel too. Like it more each time. Had it on draft at the Bodega where it’s gone now and don’t know if it’ll be back. Downtown La Crosse. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 25, 2005 This bottled brew poured a small sized head of fine to large sized long lasting off-white colored bubbles that left behind a fair lacing. The body contained unnoted carbonation, was filled with yeast floaties and light yellow brown in color. Its aroma contained notes of malty hoppy mild . Its mouth feel is initially very tingly smooth with a lingering tingly palate and a slightly acidic hoppy aftertaste. Its flavor contained thick hoppy notes. FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 23, 2005 Pours with a frothy, tan colored head that sits atop a brilliantly clear amber colored beer. The aroma is fittingly hoppy, with notes of astringent citrus mixed with an herbal pine scent. Underneath this is a sweet malt character that reminds me a bit of orange scented caramel, but also some lightly toasted malty notes as well.
The taste is soft and creamy (which may be because I served this at a cool 58*F), and has a malty sweetness to it that carries through almost to the finish, which is dominated by bitterness and an herbal citrus character. This beer is fairly light on the palate, which is good because I don’t always enjoy the thicker Double IPAs. There is a long, lingering bitter astringent note in the finish, which is actually not too strong such that it actually works quite well, especially with the upfront hop fruitiness and the sweet malt character.
This is a pretty decent example of a Double IPA; it is well balanced between the body (on the lighter side) and the hop character which is not too dominating as to be undrinkable. There is also a surprising amount of malt character here as well, and I would even swear that there was a bit of aged malt notes (perhaps a hint of sherry), but it is still fairly subtle and just adds a bit of complexity. Overall this is quite enjoyable, and definitely worth trying if you like excessive hops.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2005 Sadly, I do not remember who sent me this one. Thank you though. Pours very clear copper-orange color with no head. You can smell the stuff from across the room the minute the bottle is opened. My wife noted that though she does not like this kind of beer, that it smelled great the whole time I was enjoying it. Medium hopy pine aroma with sweet malt, alcohol and minerals (the aroma only improves and deepens as the brew continues to warm). Nice flavors. Fruity and spruce hops with some minerals intertwined. Some amount of sweet caramel malt but it is quickly eclipsed by the dry woody tasting finish. Medium carbonated body. A bit chewy at first but ends lightly woody and dry. I enjoyed this, though I felt it could have used a bit more malt to hold up the hops. illinismitty (1799), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Strong hop and citrus aroma. Medium to full body, with little carbonation.Flavor has some slight sweetness, but this is a dIPA and is dominated by hops. Texture is a tad watery At the back of the tongue it is warm and peppery.Hoppy finish with a hint of alcohoal, and the hops linger nicely. Nice beer, but not as good as Three Floyds Dreadnaught IPA. But I commend any brewery who makes a drinkable diPA. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA
