Poured reddish brown with an average frothy off-white head that diminished slowly with good lacing. Complex malty fruity aroma. Medium body with sticky smooth texture. Medium spicy balanced sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish. This beer goes well with spicy food. TAR (2095), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jul 10, 2006 Fiery rust shimmers in the light. Healthy off-white dollop of tiny-bubbled foam. Wonderfully sweet bready malt aromas waft up from the glass. Vague, well-composed note of grape jam and cinnamon. Gentle, creamy carbonation fills the mouth. Body boasts a satiny softness. Simplistic, but exquisite, blend of softly textured sweet malt flavors and spicy alcohol greet the palate. Delightfully polished and delicate despite its fairly immodest strength. Firm toffee sweetness gains a depth-lending kiss of vibrant plums and fresh baked bread. Fat and bulbous malt character has a juiciness which mirrors the succulence of the flowery hops. What little alcohol is apparent, quickly becomes lost within the body’s delicate slickness and plump malt bedding. Finishes brightly nuanced with toasty hay and softly flowery hops along with a body-enhancing doughy-yeast element, yet with just enough grainy grit to pierce the slick wall of fruitiness while the malt provides endless depth and complexity. Two Brothers should devote their time to perfecting beautiful lagers such as this instead of wasting their time on a mediocre line (save for the weisse and biere de garde) of ales. Job well done, here! Aggie80 (709), Michigan, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 5, 2006 Made a decent appearance, poured a slightly hazy orange hued amber with a sudsy head that settled into a thin lacing, medium carbonation overall.
Had a nose of pears, honey, toffee and a subtle breadiness with whiffs of sweet alcohol.
A crisp and smooth medium bodied mouthfeel, good drinkability.
Sweet malty and yeasty taste, honey and pears, toffee, bready, a light clove, a bit herbal, the pepper is very mild, barely makes a dent in the sweetness and a sweet pepper grainy finish.
A nice dopplebock from Two Brothers, for me personally, this is my favorite of their limited beers.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 25, 2006 Amber red color, not much carbonation. Starts soft with sweet malts, honey, and bread. Toward the middle you start to pick up the alcohol and peppercorns, which sort of blend together. Ends on a dry hop note and finishes with a tang of pepper. When I first read the bottle and saw peppercorns, I was reluctant to try it, but I’m glad I did. The pepper manifests itself in a background role to good effect. The beer itself is so soft that the pepper helps give it some charachter. Another solid beer from Two Bros. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA

Poured clear red amber with small white head. Soft carbonation. Sweet malt aroma. Medium bodied lager that starts with light malt sweetness and fresh flowers/fruity honey dew melon, and spicy flavors. Finished with light hop bitterness. Smooth and well-balanced, this is a beer with complex flavor character. Luscious beer and one of my favorite Two Brothers beers. DrnkMcDermott (1861), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 12, 2006 Bomber bottle. When I’m hit with a nice "beer" smell as I pop the cap, I know I can’t go too far wrong with my choice. This has that kind of smell. Pours a very orange body, under a very thin bubbly head. Taste is hard to pick out those black peppercorns. It’s very malty, and sticky as generic pancake syrup. Lots of honey and some Belgian malts goes into this, too. Hops seem to have been held back to make room for the pepper, but that just punches up the malt taste more. Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 11, 2006 An amber colored beer. The flavor is rather sweet and sugary with some honey, lemons, and caramel present. According to my notes and in completely different hand writing...."Sucked! Loved it!"
