Commercial Description:
This deep dark delight harkens back to the days when such brews were shipped to the Imperial Court of Russia. With a firm roasty maltiness balanced against a generous helping of hops, Northwind has what it takes to stand up to the worst its namesake can dish out! Enjoy it by a roaring fire. Formerly called Iditarod Imperial Stout.

Like a can of black olives in color, consistency and aroma. I’m not kidding, the brown hazy color of this dishwater instantly made me question whether it had gone bad. The flavor is hoppy and sour with little body or dignity. There is a roasted malt and a hop quality, else it remains as flacid and lifeless as Bob Dole’s weiner (sans viagra). No head, punishing palate and poor presentation. Pretty weak. I expected something a little classier from Two Brothers.

Pours a jet black bubbly "alive" head of off white coloration. Aroma is sweet creamy roasted malt, choclate, and coffee. Flavor is Roasted and dark, choclolate and creamy malts, very drinkable.

Pours black with a large frothy brown head. The aroma has chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. Fairly sweet for an imp, this has plenty of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, and anise in it. Nice dry, coffee finish.

Bottle. Huge tan head with fine-large sized bubbles, sparse lacing, opaque, and a dark brown hue. Malty, coffee, and roasty aroma. Flavor was somewhat sweet, coffee and roasty tasting. Smooth mouthfeel.

Deep balck, oily. Almost no head--what is there is dark tan. Roast malt aroma. Flavor is mostly coffee with some soy-sauce notes. A bit light in the body for an imperial stout.

duvel tulip glass: aroma of roastiness... chocolate and coffee. appearance of near midnight topped with a tight and tan cloud called "head." the head quickly leaves itself as a pretty ring and there's barely any lacing. it looks alright. the beer looks purdy thick. it feels like it isn’t. hmm, this shouldn’t be imperial. it tastes as it smells... roasty, chocolately... it feels dry and tastes a little sweet, it’s rich and not quite smooth, and well it’s good. a bit thin indeed; watery. it just doesn’t deserve to be called imperial. egh, i like it and think it's good. however, i expected a LOT more. this beer, personally, first reminded me of Anchor's Porter. a porter comparable to an imperial stout? no.

Dark brown but with plenty of light coming through at the edges. There’s virtually no head and what does form fades quickly. The aroma is roast, raspberries and nuts. The flavor adds a bit of chocolate and nougat to that combination. Still, this is a very light Imperial Stout. It’d be a decent sweet stout, but would still be a bit thin.

Roasty, bitter. Lacking fruitiness, sweet maltiness, and hop aroma. Somewhat light palate, spritzy carbonation. Even objectively (disregarding style), this fails to impress me at all.
