Pours a dark black colour with a huge brown head. Aroma has noticeable coffee and smoke on the nose, with soft roasted malts. Taste is very metallicy from start to finish. I think that turned me off the most. Flavors of wood, chocolate and coffee. Mouthfeel is decent, but i couldn’t get that metallic out of my mouth. alobar (1041), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA

Flavor improves as the beer warms. Roasted malts, chocolate, fruit, and a bit of coffee, Decent lacing. A good beer at a very inexpensive price. kimcgolf (835), Dacula, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 16, 2009 Pours to a used motor oil black, with medium-thick tan head that lingers well and leaves okay lacing. Try as I might, I could detect little nose. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, and as beer warmed, more tingly. Initial taste was dark fruit and coffee, which became overwhelmed by alcohol toward the end of the glass. Finish was semi-sweet and fairly long lasting, with alcohol becoming dominant at the end.
Not a bad, reasonably priced Impy. lebshiff21 (85), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 15, 2009 12oz. bottle. Pours super dark brown, small tan head. Chocolate and malts in the nose, dark fruit and chocolate across the palate. Nice and roasty, alcohol is hidden well. Great brew. alexsdad06 (1105), Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 6, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark brown color with a medium tan head. The aroma is dark roasted malt and light chocolate. The flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, and some hints of coffee. The finish is on the dry side. Medium bodied and smooth. This is decent, but nothing special stands out. zach8270 (2131), Henrietta, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2008 (bottle - 12 oz) Dark black pour with a thin and creamy tan head. Aroma is light but the hints of roasted malts and coffee are very apparent. Not much else that I could tell and I had my nose in the glass. Flavor is very large and complex with lots of coffee, roasted malts, cream, vanilla, and cocoa. A bit watery in the body but very roasty. Not a bad stout. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2008 12 oz bottle. Very dark black beer with a creamy tan head. Aroma is fairly subtle. Heavy roasted malts present themselves in a fairly savoury/leathery base. Dark chocolate, licorice and a bit of cocoa. Lingering roastiness, light vanilla and milk chocolate. It’s not really bad, per se... but it’s not all that good either. PilsnerPeter (2667), Flushing, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 28, 2008 Bottle: Dark pour, near opaque with a bubbly tan head. The aroma is chocolaty, with notes of roasted barley, a touch of smoke and a meaty spicy note. Light fluffy feel. Doesn’t feel like an Imperial. Smooth flavor with mild roast and chocolate character without being very sweet. There’s a light peppery note on the back. Simple, but very drinkable with no flaws. Just doesn’t seem like an Imperial.
