Commercial Description:
OH BROTHER! is one of a series of special limited-run beers in styles that are more extreme or unusual.

This crisp, straw-colored ale is blessed with a host of spicy and fruity aromas. We brew it from pilsener malt, candy sugar and some very non-traditional hop choices. But hey, we never said we were monks. We're just brothers.

In short: A really messy sweet beer of some kind. Really bad.
How: Bottle 22oz. Tasting session with Montreal crew.
The look: Cloudy dark dirty yellow topped by a very small white head
In long: Nose of rot, butter and flowers… what the… Taste is just weird and off. Too sweet, flower juice, buttery pie crust, honey, perfume. No need to expand on my limited notes, this is bad, really bad. Oh Brother! What the hell was that? I hope this was a bad bottle. This thing had more problems than a squirrel on a six lane highway.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized off-white colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a hazy with with yeast swirls dark orange brown colored body and a good lacing. The mild aroma was hoppy malty and caramel malt. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The balanced flavor contained notes of malt hops and caramel. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.

Bomber. Pours like you think a tripel should ... deep golden, without too much fluster. Same with the aroma -- rich and sweet, full of grape-laced fruitiness. Very nice rounded flavors, sweet, fruity, candied. None of the funky farmhouse-ish-ness that turns off some, this instead is just a nice fruity (and strong) Belgian beauty. (#3678, 9/20/2009)

(Rating #2640)

My Bottom Line:
Overly sweet for the style, this Tripel attempt showcases orange peel and egg pie wackiness in a hefty body marred by tart manneurisms.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the cloudy orangey blond.
-Soapy notes delve into bubblegum in the nose.
-Citrusy wheat seems confused.
-This is a good example of how Americanized Tripels can be off the mark. Then again, it’s hard to believe this bottle contained the brew they really wanted to get...

Bottle.

Late June/Early July 2008: Two Brother Oh Brother! is cloudy with a white-ish/yellow-ish color and a thin, nearly non-existent white head. It smells slightly sour along with the typical fruity and yeasty Belgian characteristics. It has a sweet, malty, fruity, and spicy flavor and reminds me of Hawaiian bread followed by a dry, slightly acidic finish. Overall this beer is OK, but maybe not worth seeking out.

1 pint 6 fl. oz. bottle (20°Plato, 28 IBU, 8.5% alc/vol) from Dilly Deli in Mariemont, Ohio. Rating #108 for this beer.

This beer pours a hazy golden-orange color with a medium thick and foamy off-white head that diminishes slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of yeast, grassy hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of yeast, citrus, hops and malt. The finish is yeasty with mild spice and malt left over. Above average overall.
