Commercial Description:
Black Ale Brewed With Coffee Beans RED EYE Coffee porter is one of a series of special limited run beers in styles that are more EXTREME or unusual. Porter’s an elusive dark ale that has been constantly changing during its long 300 year history. We figured it was about RIPE for some REINVENTION. 23.3 Plato 40IBUs 9.2 ABV

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a tan head and a deep brown body. Aroma of coffee, dirt and nutshells. Taste is espresso, chocolate and brown sugars. Light bubbles. Very well hidden alcohol.

Pours a dark black with a one finger dark tan head. The nose shows some age, mild coffee, some cardboard, roasty, chocolate. Flavor is roasty with some chocolate malt, mild coffee flavor and a little oxidation. Palate shows a medium roast and a detectable bitterness.

This was pretty good. All I wrote in my notes was meh. I usually write this when I’m tired of taking notes on beers. But I’m still going to enter this rating. Not too much coffee in this one given its name. Okay, but pretty much MEH.

Bottle thanks to Dmac. Pours out black with a moderate tan head. Nice aroma of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt and maybe even a touch of some sugary sweetness. Silky smooth mouthfeel, with just the right amount of coffee to make it not taste like straight up black coffee spiked with booze. Notes of chocolate, roasted malts and a touch of some sweetness in there too. Very well done.

22 oz bottle from Abe’s. Pours a deep dark blackish/brown with a smaller sized beige head. Aroma of fresh brewed coffee, roasted malts, dark chocolate, vanilla extract, slight alcohol. Palate is medium to fuller with a nice creamy mouthfeel and light to average carbonation. Flavor is more of a mild coffee, slight cream, burnt malts, burnt toast and some slight dark red grapes. Very solid underrated beer.

I think this bottle was a touch past its prime, though it was still pretty solid. Some oxidation going on, and perhaps creamier than intended. More chocolate than coffee. Solid, but not amazing.

Bottle from Archer Liquors. Pours very brown black with a dark tan head that is huge and sheets like a nito pour. Aroma is lots of coffee backed by mild chocolate. Medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is coffee with a lot of something like mild chocolate. Not all that bitter. Quite chocolate. Very enjoyable.
