Commercial Description:
Black Ale Brewed With Coffee Beans RED EYE Coffee porter is one of a series of special limited run beers in styles that are more EXTREME or unusual. Porter’s an elusive dark ale that has been constantly changing during its long 300 year history. We figured it was about RIPE for some REINVENTION. 23.3 Plato 40IBUs 9.2 ABV

22 oz bottle. Dark black pour with a nice light tan head. Coffee aroma, with some roasted malt. The flavor is much more complex, initially a cream and chocolate followed by the coffee and a little bit of hops. The alcohol is very well hidden. Medium to full bodied, somewhat sticky palate that leaves behind a nice lacing on the glass. I really enjoyed this brew, in my opinion it is a little under-rated.

22oz - Aroma old day old coffee, burnt chocolate malts and some hops. Flavor is initially smooth, then the bitter coffee and hops kick in, with a chocolate finish. Palate is bitter and creamy. It’s not a bad beer but maybe a little to bitter.

Bottle w/ unknown vintage - Thanks Santa! - Pours a slightly thick dk brown with a small beige head...aroma is cocoa and coffee with a bit of fruity malt, some roast as well...flavour is coffee crema, vanilla and roasty malt...alcohol is completely hidden and almost sweet...this is lacking some of the charred woody bitterness that you find in a lot of Imperial porters, but I find it way too drinkable to slow down...ample carbonation and malt to keep this different...really enjoyed this...

I like Two Brothers beer and have a high opinion of Cane & Ebel, Opus 10, and Heavy Handed. This beer wasn’t bad, but didn’t really meet my expectation. The combination of this brewer, the look of the packaging, and the claims the packaging copy made all conspired to create this expectation that this beer was something BIG and extreme, and I didn’t find it to be that exactly. The beer is what it says it is - it’s a porter with some coffee flavor. But I didn’t find much big/extreme in the bottle. The color is a translucent coffee color. The head is plentiful. The aroma is of coffee, but not terribly intense. Flavor is of a not-very-roasty porter, overlaid with a fair amount of somewhat sweet coffee flavor (which is also not very roasty). For a beer that is 9%+ ABV, I didn’t detect any booziness. Mouthfeel was a touch on the thin side. Not bad, but not extreme, which is what I was expecting. At $6.99 a bottle, this is worth a try, but the next time I have access to beer shopping where Two Brothers are available, I will probably purchase something else from their brewery. I bought this bottle at Sam’s Liquor in Chicago.

Milld coffee aroma, mild chocolate aromas, hints of vanilla, molasses and some roasted malts on the nose. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. I just typed how great session beer this is because it has such a nice mild flavor, then i saw the 9.2% abv!! Wow it sure hides it well, its not over the top, the coffee is not over powering its very easy to drink, a great porter with great coffee flavor.

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, roasted coffee, and caramel. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a moderate beige head. The flavor starts chocolate and caramel. The finish has some nice roasted coffee with a hint of dark chocolate. Medium bodied with mild carbonation and slightly oily mouthfeel.

Bomber acquired via trade. Poured out deep black with a vast tan head. Aroma is almost entirely roasted coffee, with some light bits of chocolate and caramel backing it up. Flavor is more coffee, nice and strong and heavily roasted. Finishes a little bitter, but definitely a tasty brew.
