Commercial Description:
Black Ale Brewed With Coffee Beans RED EYE Coffee porter is one of a series of special limited run beers in styles that are more EXTREME or unusual. Porter’s an elusive dark ale that has been constantly changing during its long 300 year history. We figured it was about RIPE for some REINVENTION. 23.3 Plato 40IBUs 9.2 ABV

Bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of sweet malt and roasted notes. Flavor is sweet vanilla initially with roasted malt in the finish. Light sweetness, on the borderline of too sweet...A bit boring, but not bad per se. A mediocre imperial porter. 7/4/7/3/14 (3.5/5)

Bottle. Aroma of coffee, a touch of earthy hops, some vanilla, light smoked brisket notes, licorice. Flavor starts out again with nicely roasted coffee, with some chocolate and sweet, mildly roasted malt notes following behind. Again, just a hint of those earthy hops, this time toward the finish, works really well with the re-burgeoning coffee notes as a contrast to the sweet, milky malt. Really nice in that there is strong coffee presence without the beer being nothing about the coffee and instead about a blend of strong porter and coffee. Yet another beer from this brewery that I’m rating well above its average. Why don’t y’all like these guys?

Draft at GM. Pours a black body with a tan head. A very nice coffee character when served cold. This diminishes as the beer warms as does the enjoyment of the initial aroma. Well it was a good attempt im actually a bit surprised seeing this is listed at nine and change in terms of alcohol. Go figure it got a bit grainy and malt as the glass wound down.

22oz bottle. Poured a dark black color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of coffee/coffee grounds, roastiness, and some chocolate. Tastes of coffee, roast, chocolate, caramel, and vanilla. The coffee was stronger in the aromas. The body was a tad on the thinner side with the alcohol content well hidden.

Bottle in trade from abents. Thanks! Pours black with a short lived beige head. Smell is as to be expected with rye and coffee aromas, both. Taste is somewhat bitter with bittersweet rye maltiness and a noticeable coffee flavor as well. Body is medium with normal carbonation. The rye adds an interesting and slightly odd smell to this beer, but the flavor is solid. The alcohol is hidden well. Decent all around, but I’m ok with not having this again.

22. Thanks, Riverside! Or Homebrew. Somebody. Jet black with caramel highlights. Loose dark tan film. Big coffee and chocolate nose. Creamy medium body. Lots of smooth milk-chocolate on the mid-palate. Hides the booze very well. Long chocolate finish.

22 oz. bottle. Strong coffee smell is first out of the bottle. Pours black and fizzy, with a 1-finger molasses colored head. Thick, dark roasted, sout malt smell under the coffee. Taste is slightly chewy, with some Caribou style coffee in back. Alcohol warmth, dry character. Tannins seem overdone, and I note that 2Bros. does not have a regular stout or porter, this may be why. But all its tastes are big, up-front and stronger as I finish the bottle.

Pours nearly black, with an impressive, soapy lace - aroma of potent coffee, vanilla, anise, and tobacco leaves - low carbonation, smooth, creamy mouthfeel - the intense roast and bitterness of the coffee is offset by a rather high, condensed milk kind of sweetness that is a little too much for my taste - kind of light-bodied for the strength - eventually, the bitterness overpowers the high sweetness, and some of the more complex flavors of the coffee come through - a slight bit of acidic tanginess on the back end, perhaps from the caffeine in the coffee? - the alcohol manifest as a spicy quality in the finish, but aside from that, it’s well-hidden - decent.
