Commercial Description:
Black Ale Brewed With Coffee Beans RED EYE Coffee porter is one of a series of special limited run beers in styles that are more EXTREME or unusual. Porter’s an elusive dark ale that has been constantly changing during its long 300 year history. We figured it was about RIPE for some REINVENTION. 23.3 Plato 40IBUs 9.2 ABV

Pours nearly black, with an impressive, soapy lace - aroma of potent coffee, vanilla, anise, and tobacco leaves - low carbonation, smooth, creamy mouthfeel - the intense roast and bitterness of the coffee is offset by a rather high, condensed milk kind of sweetness that is a little too much for my taste - kind of light-bodied for the strength - eventually, the bitterness overpowers the high sweetness, and some of the more complex flavors of the coffee come through - a slight bit of acidic tanginess on the back end, perhaps from the caffeine in the coffee? - the alcohol manifest as a spicy quality in the finish, but aside from that, it’s well-hidden - decent.

Nice coffee porter, has a nice coffee taste, the body seemed a bit thin, but still slightly creamy. Aroma was a nice coffee bite too.

Dark black pour with a thin chocolate milkshake shaded head. Creamy mouthfeel, along with chocolate, roast, and licorice. Very easy drinking and alcohol is barely detectable for a high abv brew. Pretty good and well crafted, but nothing that stands out.

Black color with a one-finger head. Strong coffee aroma. Light chocolate and roasted malt. Tons of coffee, chocolate and rich, dark malt flavor. Very light bitter roast. Thick as heck. I freakin love this!

22oz bottle. Pours black with a large fluffy tan head. Faint aroma of roasted malts. Flavor is caramel and roasted malts with notes of coffee and cocoa. Smooth palate with a medium-thin body. Alcohol is very well concealed. Would prefer more depth and coffee flavor in this one. Good, but not amazing.

Bottle and served in my Stone IRS snifter: Initial huge fluffy beige head which left excellent lacework upon the glass, solid deep brown hue. The aroma has notes of resiny and herbal hops, fresh coffee, chocolate, charred malts, pipe tobacco, and a hint of fig. The taste starts with a combination of bitter coffee and bitter hops with the sweet malt in the background. However the malt come forward a bit more towards the finish. Slight smoke, lacto twang, anise and alcohol noted on the finish. The aftertaste is actually nicely complex. The mouth feel is smooth and displays a very good body for a coffee imbued beer. Warming and inviting, this is darn nice coffee porter, dare I say almost Baltic in nature.

Brewed in the USA..... Pours dark brown almost black in color with a thin beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and toffee notes. Taste is much of the same with a slight vanilla flavor !!! The mouthfeel is smooth, a bit on the thin side with a slight dryness at the finish. Overall, i would say it’s average for a coffee porter but still enjoyable.

totally opaque with swirling white whisps of head. sweet lacto java nose, similar to breakfast stout. no evidence of alcohol. very soft mouthfeel, flavor of chocolate covered espresso beans, sweet with light acidic note, very pleasant. comforting big beer, well done!
