sfontain (500), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 19, 2005 Gorgeous orange/amber with a medium, soapy/frothy head; light lacing. Big aroma of citrus, hops, heavy pine. Flavor is good but not awesome: light malt and immediately a noticeable spiciness; heavy hops; excellent alcohol warmth (astounding for 6%, really). Medium- to full-bodied but clean. I don’t usually care that much for IPAs because they are too over-hopped; somehow this beer manages to be very heavily hopped but not offensively so. Certainly just about the best IPA I’ve had to date, though not in my top 5% of beers overall.
D_malone102 (67), Denver, Colorado, USA Aug 17, 2008 Had this in a bottle at Monks in Philly. Not a big IPA like many of its competitors, this beer is very easy to drink. Bitterness dominates the hop ballance, it is a very complex malt profile. brew4fun (116), West Virginia, USA Aug 17, 2008 12oz. bottle. Served in bottle. Swirling the bottle produces a creamy non-persistent head. Aroma of toasted malt, floral hops and a touch of orange. Taste is more of the same, yet I think a bit light on the hops for an IPA. Silky smooth light-medium body, nicely bitter, very drinkable. ahabman (4), , Alabama, USA does not count Aug 16, 2008 Love this one. I got a mixed 6 and liked third coast ale, a similar one, even better. mar (558), Dallas, Texas, USA Aug 16, 2008 bottle thanks to kosko20. nice light amber color with a white head that dissipates into floaties. very easy on the palate on the palate with a very smooth hop flavor that is quite nice. jetzler (571), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA Aug 16, 2008 Bottle, aroma of pure christmas tree goodness, pours a nice cloudy golden color with a fluffy head. First tried this beer while camping drinking from a bottle and thought it was amazing now that I can properly drink it, its even better. Such a rich strong palate, a burst of hops its a really nice brew, alcohol is well hidden, substantial complexity. Very, very nice brew. Bells is just an amazing brewery.
