| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 14, 2006 Pours with a frothy, initially three finger thick, light tan colored head, which even leaves a light layered lace pattern on the sides of the glass. The beer is a lightly hazy, amber tan color, through which bubbles, from a medium carbonation, slowly waft up from the bottom of my tulip glass. The aroma is purely hop driven; Notes of zesty orange, definite grapefruit, lychee, and even sweet tangerine form the citrus component, while a backdrop of herbaceous pine. The sticky hop notes are accentuated by the barely noticeable malt character, which leans towards caramelized notes and perhaps a touch of biscuit character. The malt helps to accentuate the hop aromatics, but is really only barely noticeable as a separate entity.
Quite a bit smoother up front than I was expecting, but the biting hops start to take hold by the middle and have a fairly solid grip by the finish. Not overly harsh, but this definitely has a hop astringency that is almost green. In combination with the bitterness, this forms a nice foil for the sweeter hop character notes. Citrus flavors abound, and are accentuated by a sweet (albeit a touch muddy, or is that green hop components) malt character that again plays a supporting role. Flavors of ruby-red grapefruit, lychee, and orange blossoms strike the tongue first before a solid hit of raw, green, grassy, herbaceous hop notes come through. Interestingly enough, despite the latter, the former linger on quite well into the long finish as well. As the beer warms it becomes a bit softer, the malt, while still completely subservient, helps to soften out the aggressive hop character. This is definitely a joyous celebration of hops, and I am certainly satisfying the hop-head side of my psyche right now. shadey (1500), Rochester, New York, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 23, 2006 This poured with a dark orange body and a thick slightly off white head. The aroma was big with some grapefruit, wood and toffee. The taste had notes of strong bitter orange peel and hints of burnt toffee in the finish. This is a taste bud assault with loads of hops. This is not as well balanced, but more of a hop bomb. OldGrowth (1426), North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 22, 2006 Bottle, from trade with Captain Cougar. Bitter aroma. Grapefruit, little cherry?, orange marmalade. Surprise I wrote down ABV as I see it’s at 6.5%, but that’s what I got, mixed in with aroma. Nice brownish orange color. Ok head with good lace. Bitter flavor, Grapefruit, Leathery, whisky. Maybe that’s what I called orange marmalade in the aroma. Medium body, oily creamy mouthfeel, bitterdry finish. Nice ipa, thanks Capt. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Aroma, floral, citrus, and some resinous notes. Flavor, some light malty sweetness kicks off, and sticks around through the hop blast. Nice bitterness with citrus and floral flavors. Very nice finish, this is my kind of IPA.
