Not as strong as I had expected. Golden copper in color wit ha tall, off-white head and good lacing. Sweet and malty with a fruity, almost applie-like sweetness. Mid-palate it changes to a lighter, cola and grainy flavor. Bitterness is not very over -powering. Doesn’t seem hellish to me. A good, well balanced IIPA that isn’t overly sweet or cloying. Medium0light body, a little watery with high levels of carbonation. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 3, 2007 Dark Amber color with Sandy Head. Hops and Burnt Caramel Aroma. Flavor Is Reminiscent of Peated Smoke Malt. Sweet Caramel and Toast..Nice Neatly Packed Hops. Little Sudsy overall.. Almost Like Drinking a Hopped Scotch Ale. Nice Layers to This Brew. Afterthought of Light Chocolate. Wonderful Brew. Maybe a Bitter Woman isn’t To Be Feared After All. GeneralGao (3057), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Apr 29, 2007 12 oz bottle. Poured a clear orange color; one shade lighter than the Hop Whore IIPA. Head was thick with good retention and lacing. Smelled of light malty caramel, but not much else. Dry on the tongue with plenty of hop bitterness, but not much hop flavor. I tasted some husky cereal grain and a bit of caramel. unfortunately there was also a metallic detracting note. Stick with the plain old Bitter Woman IPA. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 24, 2007 boring. thats what i can call this beer. ive had pale ales with more hops. the initial aroma was rather soapy in a body wash kind way. maybe irish spring...i dunno. flavor...well, kinda nothing really. dont get me wrong....plenty drinkable and went down really smooth. but IPA...i dont think so...and dont get me wrong, im not some hophead that cant taste hops unless they are over 80 IBUs...but seriously, this was mediocre at best. bboeckl (135), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 20, 2007 Bottle. Orangish brown colour. 1 finger head. Unbelievable lacing. Best i have ever seen. I had a line of lacing for every sip that I took! Nose was of powerful hop. Taste was lively. Severely bitter, earthy, but a bit of carmel and sweet hidden in the background. This beer is definately in your face. You love it or you don’t. Seems as most ratebeerians loved it, as did I. I would definately buy this beer again. Silphium (2137), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 11, 2007 Bottle from CaptainCougar. Murky orange sediment-laden body, thin off-white to buff head. Hop tea aroma, earthy, with a variety of hops providing notes of fall leaves, grass, pine, and citrus. Sweet bready malts add depth. Interesting body, beginning with strong bitter hops and fruity malt with apricot tones. Citrusy and leafy, too, melding into the complex hop tea suggested by the aroma. The palate never bores. Great IPA! CMUBEERMAN (415), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 11, 2007 This beer was pretty good. Reddish color with a white head. Aroma was very earthy...tons of grassy hops, a little bit of citrus, and some dirty malt. Flavor was similar, except the malt came through more than I expected. This is very good...it really is kind of a extra bitter woman. jsquire (2107), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 3, 2007 Amber beer out of the bottle with a fluffy off white head that left sheets of lace. JCapriotti warned that the hops may have diminished, but this beer seem just fine to me. Now I wonder what it like fresh . Predominate piney hop nose. Lots of bready malts supporting the grapefruit, apple sauce, orange rind and hop resin of this bold beer. So much better than I remember the Bitter Woman being.
