Commercial Description:
Rob so enjoyed the rye component of Dirty Old Man that we decided to brew an IPA with it as well. We’ll be amping up the gravity, as well as the flavoring and aroma hops (relative to Bitter Woman).

Bottle courtesy of BeerBelcher and opened at my refrigerator reduction tasting on 8/15/09. Pours a clear amber with a medium off-white head. Bready malt makes up most of the nose, but there are some citrusy and earthy hops as well. Flavor is a bit more balanced, with the citrusy hops coming through first before the bread hits you. Balanced and very good.

12 ounce bottle shared by CrellMoset. Thanks! Pours an amber color with a thin head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of big floral hops with citrus, sweet malts and a lightly peppery finish. Taste is bitter rye notes lending to a peppery, spicy vibe along with citrus and herbal hop notes and light caramel. Fairly dry and spicy. Medium-full bodied. Nice beer.

12 oz. bottle purchased at Steve’s Liquors in Madison, WI. Pours copper in color with an off-white head. Sweet malty aroma with some grassy hops. Perhaps the sweetness is from the rye? Good hoppy flavor but no rye detected in the taste. A solid IPA but nothing too exciting.

Bottle - thanks Adam. Dull copper pour with a modest beige head. Aroma is rather rich with citrus and light caramel malt. Very sweet and syrupy. Tastes more floral in hoppiness with light citrus, caramel, and the drier rye element. Good, but had the hops come through as much in the flavor as they did in the nose, this would be excellent.

Thanks to mikey711 for this one. Pours an opaque orange-amber with a small off-white head. Nose is caramel, spice, sour citrus, and prickly rye. Flavor is similar with tart citrus and hop punch in front and in back. White grapefruit all over. Medium mouthfeel and bitter-finishing IPA.

Pours a transparent bright orange amber with a thin, spotty-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt with some dusty rye chracter and grapefruity hop spice. Starts fairly full and sweet with an interesting grainy component and good juicy, resiny hops. Finishes drier, crisp and bittersweet with a lingering hop bite. A pretty good Rye IPA.

Beautiful amber color with a weak head. Not much aroma, at least for an IPA. Great malt up front, including some spicy rye, followed by decent hop bitterness. Very nice balance.

Pours a hazy orange-ish gold color with a nice head with good retention and modest lace. Aroma is grassy and somewhat piney. Flavor had some good grapefruit, some nice rye bitter character, with just a little bit of caramel. Plenty of spiciness is around and it’s pretty dry. I enjoyed this indeed.
