Rye flavor is dominent-especially at the end. Nice hop flavor accompanies the rye and the malt. Aroma of hops gets better as itwarms- nice smell as you tip back the pint glass. Some lacing on the glass. Bockyhorsey (2561), Mesa, Arizona, USA

Flavor was of sweet malt and some rye bitterness. Medium bodied brew an ipa? Easy on the palate. Had a Bells pale ale before this one thought this was more like an APA. twindadplus2 (418), Wisconsin, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 16, 2009 This beer reminds me of Mark--FirmButtStone--his signature beer. 12oz, no date from Discount Liquor in Milwaukee. Clear orange with a one finger yellowish white creamy head, good retention. The good news is that I had no trouble finding the spicy sweet rye in the aroma. The bad news is that the hops were on par with an APA--only some light citrus hop notes. There is also some caramel malt. The flavor has a slightly brighter citrus hop character, but I stress the word slightly. Needs more aroma hops! Semi-dry with bitterness around a 4. There is still plenty of rye, which does make me happy--unfortunately, it is only half of the equation. Light prickly carbonation with a light to medium body. Pretty good, but lacking the shitload of hops that Mark’s has, which may be why it’s hard for me to see this as an IPA. FlssmrBrewAlum (1184), Lisle, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 15, 2009 12 oz bottle courtesy of a 4 pack from Binnys (Orland Park, IL). Pours a very nice bright orange amber, light haze, fairly large beige head, thick, bubbly, laces fairly well and dies to a decent amount. Aromas push very nice citrus, grapefruit, caramel and rye malts, florals and a touch of pine, sweetening tropical fruit affect. Initial is decent bodied, the caramel malts stick out but the rye mellows it out on the backend, good floral and citrusy hops, light resinois pine, and the finish packs decent bitterness and some tropical fruit sweetness in the aftertaste. A touch soapy and biscuity, this is a well done IPA. A little thin in body, but fruitiness from citrus, orange, and faint tropical really make a nice soothing flavor. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 14, 2009 Color is a nice golden brown with light carbonation and a small head. Aroma is a rich floral hop scent. Taste rich, hoppy and bitter. Starting with a bolder medium body it goes down with a rich feel. Finish comes in malty then a big floral hop taste, a touch of hay and bold bitterness. After taste is dry and bitter. This is a very good IPA with an extra bitter kick. Poured a clear brown color with an average creamy white head that was mostly lasted and had good lacing. Medium to heavy ciitrus hop and rye aroma. Medium body with slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate duration.
Good complex brew and standout for style. jah noth (1023), Rochester, New York, USA
