Commercial Description:
Rob so enjoyed the rye component of Dirty Old Man that we decided to brew an IPA with it as well. We’ll be amping up the gravity, as well as the flavoring and aroma hops (relative to Bitter Woman).

Bottle… October ’09 O-Town Throwdown... Clear yellow ale with a small, fizzy, white head. The aroma presents black tea, caramel, resin and spicy rye. Full-bodied with medium carbonation. The flavor tilts toward the bitter side of balance, but provides nice malty, grainy essences of caramel and rye. Bittersweet, dry finish. Bottle provided by juiceisloose

Pours a transparent bright orange amber with a thin, spotty-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt with some dusty rye chracter and grapefruity hop spice. Starts fairly full and sweet with an interesting grainy component and good juicy, resiny hops. Finishes drier, crisp and bittersweet with a lingering hop bite. A pretty good Rye IPA.

Bottle from the Orland Park, IL, Binny’s: Looks okay - a clear orange/amber body with a decent head. Smells kind of odd - mineral water, caramel, PNW hops. The "mineral water" is the odd part, and it remains in the flavor. Fortunately, there’s a peppery spiciness and an increase in the hops’ bitterness that brings it together somewhat. Okay, but I had anticipated a lot more.

Amber to copper color with a tallish taupe head that is a a bit creamy looking and has a nice sheet of lace. Fresh hops aroma, very much like Bitter Woman with the citric notes. Just a hint of caramel and rye. Does not have the thickness and "slickness" I find in many a rye. Grass and citric notes in the flavors. The malt and rye seem a bit distant and when they do show up, there is a bit of astringency. Quite bitter in the finish and linger. Sharp and spicy, with pepper and grapefruit peels. My second bottle, and I’m not feeling the rye love, just the bitter woman.

Bottle shared shigadeyo. Poured a clear brown color with an average creamy white head that was mostly lasted and had good lacing. Medium to heavy ciitrus hop and rye aroma. Medium body with slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good complex brew and standout for style.

Bottle from Archer Liquors. Pours amber with a little beige head. Aroma is strongly malty with a fair amount of hop. Medium body with chewy, creamy carbonation. Flavor is more rye malt than not, and the hop is quite floral and fruit. Rye seems to help cut the malt, and the hop helps there too. Got a good taste in the finish. Dry, astringent, bitter. Very good beer.
