Smells rather pine-ey. Taste is not quite as bitter as the name would have you believe, though I would certainly call it bitter. Bitter earthy hops and some malty tastes make up the flavor. Pretty good beer. jason (1627), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 8, 2007 Bottle. Thanks to Stine for sending me this. Poured a deep golden amber body with thin head. Light citrus aroma with a big caramel scent. Flavor was slightly bitter sweet with citrus, light hops, and a nice caramel mouthfeel. Pretty smooth. Ughsmash (4094), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 28, 2007 Bottled. Poured hazy medium golden with a short cap of white head and some yeasties floating around in there. Really enjoyed the aroma of pine and citrus bitters over sweet caramel. Flavor wasn’t half bad either.. sweet pine and citrus base with sharp, but well-placed pine resin and grapefruit bitterness surrounding. Medium-bodied with well-done higher bitterness to it... long, bitter, and slightly cloying finish. Very nice overall. Sombeast (151), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 27, 2007 Bottle courtesy of my JMort. Served in an Arrogant Bastard shaker glass. An aggressive pour nets a lumpy three finger head that threatens to overflow the glass and mutes the initial aroma. Color is a clear pale amber with some fine floating particulates. Head lasts more than long enough to annoy me as I attempt to get an unimpeded whiff of the aroma. The aroma is a blend of malt sweetness mixed with fresh hops. Flavor hops pop nicely, mixing with a medium-bodied beer. The flavor then show a brief bitter note, followed by an extended, distinctly grapefruit-like finish. This is a balanced and extremely drinkable IPA. GeneralGao (3076), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 25, 2007 12 oz bottle. Poured a clear orange color. Head was off white and reduced to a thin soapy film. A bit of lace was left on the glass at the end. Aroma was of resiny hops and malty caramel. Minimal initial sweetness gives way to a dry, assertive hop bitterness. Somewhat fruity on the tongue with dominant caramel malt and ample citrus hop flavors. Pretty good IPA. Pours very nicely into a medium amber that forms into a nice head. Smell is tits, very good and IPA’ish. THe taste, not so much. Very good, but on the level of an PA. Very drinkable brew.
Thanks, GB.
