Gave it a second chance and found that my taste in beer has changed. Cool name and label. Indistinct aroma. Nice amber appearance. I liked the fizziness. Thin filmy head. Bitterness like you would expect in an IPA. But it wasn’t sharp at all. The aftertaste was bitter, but nice. Not sour. A really drinkable ale. I was surprised that the ABV was only 5.75%. I had my first Tyranena at a beer tasting session in Sheboygan 3 years ago. Thought they were a nobody at that time. But they obviously know what they are doing judging by the ratings on their offerings. Great product from this Badger State operation. I think they have a great future! chimpscampee (566), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Not quite as dry and spicy as Sierra Nevada PA (as I had hoped) and also without SN’s sour note, which is at times, well, sour. This earthy hustling ale makes my roster more as a bench warmer I can play with confidence. On Wisconsin! jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 3, 2006 From a 12 oz. twist cap stubby brown bottle with a story and blurb on the left side of label, no bottle/freshness date.
Made a good appearance, poured a chill hazy reddish orange hued amber with a foamy beige head that settled into a thin, foamy, bubbly lacing, minimal amount of sticking, good carbonation.
Had a pleasing citric rind hop nose with a little leafy earthiness and toasted maltiness framing the edges.
A crisp, hop textured and smooth lightish medium bodied mouth feel. very good AIPA drinkability.
An excellent hop taste, citric rind and a leafy earthiness, the right amount of bitterness, numbing on the tongue, but not to the point where it deadens the tongue and you start to slur your words, that is followed by grapefruit, oily and juicy, hop flavor, a sweet, almost sugary, maltiness just below the surface that really never breaks through and a dry citric hop taste that lingers in the palate.
A delicious AIPA from Tyranena, one of the better ones out there, a must try for any IPA lover.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 29, 2006 Bottled, no date. Pours a clear copper with pretty much no head, just a little off-white fizz here and there.Aroma of pine, grapefruit, and resiny hops, and some caramel malts. Taste is the same, leaning more to the piney hops and a moderate bitter finish. Some caramel sweetness noted towards the beginning of the sip. Thin body, creamy mouthfeel, light carbonation. Pretty good, beats their Stone Teepee APA. RAYBOY01 (1856), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 27, 2006 Unusually dominating malt presence upfront...followed by a trailing hop bitterness far less than advertised or expected. Not a bad drink at all, but way too timidly bittered for a Neo- American IPA. Bready malts overwhelm the moderate citrus hopping from start to finish. I might be more comfortable with designating this an APA. Dogbrick (2864), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 19, 2006 On draught at Bodega in La Crosse. Dark copper color with a thin off-white head. Thin rings of lacing down the whole glass. Bitter aroma of hops, pine and citrus. Medium body with a bitter hops feel throughout. Citrusy hops flavor, along with some bready malt and pine in the background. The balance is pretty good throughout. The finish is lingering bitterness, with the hoppy flavor sticking around quite some time. Solid from start to finish. Cornfield (4963), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 16, 2006 I just didn’t find this to be as bitter as advertized. Not bad - bright copper with a strong caramel aroma balanced by a combination of floral and earthy hops, with just a touch of grapefruit. Strong malt presence in the tasting, the bitterness backing off somewhat to make only a moderate return in the finish. Okay, but I feel like my The LoSBD colleague El_Borracho and I (separately) drank something different than what the other raters did.

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 4, 2006 Bottle. Pours orange with a thin white head. Aroma is definatly malt heavy with some floral hop presence. The malts continue to dominate the flavor although there is the presence of an astringent bitterness that I found odd and not as pleasant as expected. My first though is that the bottle may be old even though I consumed it within a week of purchase. Either way, I did not find this as good as others have.
