Mild lacing. Aroma is caramel and bourbon in the forefront. Hints of raisins, dates, and other dark fruits. Flavor. is similar, very complex. Starts sweet and caramel, moving to fruits and bourbon sneaking in, finishing strong with a silky bourbon flavor. The Palate is medium, warm, silky and smooth. Finishes with a good warming dry bourbon aftertaste. Warms you all the way through. Great for Wisconsin winter! Excellent example of a barley wine. LtJudge (432), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 15, 2009 2006 vintage on tap at Tyranena’s 10th anniversary party - This beer was the reason I made it out to Lake Mills, and it didn’t disappoint. Poured deep brown with nary a head. Smell is sweet bourbon, caramel, vanilla, and raisins. It’s pretty straightforward, but smooth as hell and without any of the booziness that the original had. Taste is more of the same, but all the rough edges have been smoothed out, and all that’s left is dangerously easy-drinking sweetness. It’s not over the top though--it doesn’t feel too sweet or syrupy, just very rich. Definitely a sipper both because of taste and the 13%, but this was everything I thought it would be. Stupendous. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 21, 2009 2006 vintage on tap at Tyranena’s 10th anniversary party. Pours a murky red brown with a thin head that quickly fades. Aroma is caramel, dark fruits, brown sugar and bourbon. Flavor. is similar, very complex. Starts sweet and caramel, moving to fruits and bourbon sneaking in, finishing very smooth with no burn at all. The ageing only made this one better. This is the main reason that I went to the party, and it did not disappoint! grimreeser (797), Minnesota, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 22, 2008 On tap at the Brewery. Served in a shaker for $4. Wow I was surprised to see this on tap. The brewer said they found this one in a back cooler and also it was limited to two glasses a day. I see why. Pours a murky red brown with a thin head that quickly fades. Nose is dominated by aged malts and fruits. Toffee, caramel, dark fruits, cherries, bourbon, brown sugar, and lots of plums. Smooth slightly creamy palate. The brown sugars and aged malts are the first flavors with a balancing act of the plums, cherries, dark fruit, bourbon, and toffee. Some alcohol and vanilla warms around the edges. Really tasty and really drinkable. Everything I like about an aged barleywine. Well done. Skyview (4057), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 17, 2008 On draught at the brewery’s taproom in Lake Mills, Wisconsin. Pours a hazy amber brew with a fast dissolving creamy beige head that quickly dissipates to a thin off-white head with some film swirl top. Aroma is quite complex of powdered caramel malt, sweet bourbon, dark pitted fruits, some raisins, brown sugar and a touch of coconut. Taste is extraordinary smooth and creamy, medium bodied with hardly no carbonation. Flavors is just as complex as its aroma with more chalky caramel flavors, vanilla, plenty of bourbon, brown sugar and even a little molasses. Finish has an alcohol warmness that is refreshing and enjoyable. Happy to have the chance to try this one fresh at the brewery. brewblackhole (1383), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA
