This porter pours a eclipse black color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized beige foamy head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee, touch of vanilla and sweetness. A lighter to medium bodied porter. The malts are chocolate and coffee. The hops are floral and earthy. Nicely balanced, easy drinking porter. Lively carbonation. Nice balance. Decent porter. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, some roasty malts.

12 oz bottle. Poured an opaque black color. Head was thick and khaki with good retention and lacing. Simple, but pleasant caramel aroma. Slightly sweet on the tongue up front which eventually gave way to a complimentary roasty bitterness that lingered. Tasted predominantly of roasty malt with only a hint of bitter chocolate. Good, but didn’t knock my socks off.

A simple but tasty porter. Aroma has light coffee, and not so much that it overwhelms the other qualities. Some malt there as well. Flavor is malty with a cocoa powder-grittiness. Black in color, and good heavy palate.

In the bottle at the 2007 Baburek backyard vintage beer tasting. Dark reddish brown to black with a dark brown head. Mild chocolate aroma, but little else. This bottle had been aged for about 2 years. Body is thinner for a porter and has a mild roastedness, but does not seem particularly noteworthy after it’s prime.

A particulary OK porter. Tastes toasted, with a medium body and no smoky aftertaste like so many other porters have. Not as dark in color as other porters either. Overall, above average for the style, which I love (thus the inflated numbers).

12 oz. bottle courtesy of Bockyhorsey - Pours a clear dark brown color with a 3/4 finger thick light tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is roasted malt and light coffee. Flavor is toasted malt, light chocolate, and light coffee. Light to medium body. No roasted malt aftertaste. A very drinkable Porter. Thanks Wendy and Bill.

Bottle. Pours dark, dark brown with just a hint of rich amber highlights. Coffee, malt and chocolate on the nose. Fairly rich and creamy body with decent carbonation. Taste was a slightly better than average porter: roasted malt, toffee, chocolate and just a hint of hops. Decent offering.

5/11/2007: Tyranena Chief BlackHawk Porter pours a clear, very, very, dark brown color with a nice, foamy, mocha-colored head that leaves delicate lacing patterns on the glass. The aroma is a bit weak but has som earthy, roasted malts and a thin/watery unsweetened chocolate quality. The flavor begins with black roasted malts, but then seems a bit watered-down in the middle. Other flavors that come out in this beer incude toast, very dark/bitter chocolate, and charcoal (but no smokiness). A burnt, highly roasted bitterness appears in the long, but thin finish. Some alcohol is apparent when the beer gets warmer. This beer has a medium body with ample carbonation (maybe a bit too much carbonation for this style). There is a lot of potential for this beer to be great, but it doesn’t quite deliver the full package...

12 oz bottle via trade with buckybeer. Thanks again Mark!
