| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 2, 2006 12 oz bottle, via joebrew. Pours a clear very dark brown colored body under a one inch foamy light brown head that left heavy lacing. Aroma is chocolaty with a little caramel, grape soda, coffee, and light hoppiness. Flavor is pretty hoppy up front with chocolate malt and caramel. A light nuttiness on the lightly bitter finish. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with moderate fizzy carbonation. Slightly cloying and sticky on the finish. Overall, a nice basic Porter. Maybe a little thinnish but still quite enjoyable. sneagrams3 (1759), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 29, 2006 12oz bottle. Filtered yet very dark brown hue, almost black. It had an almost reddish highlight when held to the light. Toasty coffee nose. Slight nuance of cocoa. Sweet and medium to full bodied. Sweet cocoa malts and a touch of cola. The finish is tart and smooth. There is a bitterness throughout. Initially from the coffee note supplied by the roasted malts, then the spicy piney hops. Good solid brew. Sweet and bitter layered malts. Then the spicy peppery hops. There is a great fleating cocoa note somewhere in the middle. More so on the dry side, but still an excellent porter. islay (478), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Nov 25, 2006 Bottle. Weak, sweet, coffee-like aroma. Pours black with a thin tan head. Remarkably dark shade for a porter, with no noticeable gold, amber, red, or even brown hue. Simple, tar-like flavor but with decidedly sweet afternotes. Very little aftertaste, which is surprising given the style, but probably a good thing because the primary taste isn’t particularly good. Light to medium body. This is not a bad beer, but there just isn’t much to it. I tried it a few months ago and didn’t think much of it. Recently, I noticed that it scored well here at ratebeer.com, so I figured I might have missed something, and I decided to give it another shot. Sorry, but I’m still not impressed. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 7, 2006 Thanks to Buckybeer for this one. It pours indeed a robust black with a robust 3-finger tan head that stays around for a long time and looks like a chocolate malt. The aroma is very roasty dark patent malty, with some slight rauchiness, some chocoff, and some figgy and vinous fruit hints. The flavor is roasty and dark malty, with an initial sweet chocolatey f;avor that ets a bit drier and roastier as it warms. Medium palate heft, with a good balance and very good complexity. This one goes down smooth and is extremely quaffable. List Tyranena as another Wisconsin brewer (along with New Glarus and a few others) that make me want to move to Wisconsin. Hell, I’d even buy Ed Gein’s old house if I had to!
