Slightly thin-bodied, but otherwise this is an excellent example of a porter (really, quite midwestern) that is smoky and a bit chocolatey. I think I like it because the chocolate is balanced, nuanced even. Some foresty hop bitterness lingers. A little chalky/dusty. A very good example, and thanks Joel. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA

Medium sweet licorice aroma along with some coffee grounds. Black body with tan head and some lacing. Flavor was sweet for the most part but not oversweet. Seemed to have some balace here. Little roast on palate. Good beer. TheEnemy (422), Chicago, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 27, 2005 Pours dark reddish brown, medium tan head with decent retention and lacing. Nice coffee, dry grain, slight malt and chocolate aroma. Flavor isn’t quite as complex, being mostly medium roasted grain with some sweet malt, coffee and a slight metallic tinge. Pretty solid body with a fairly chewy palate. A decent porter that would do in a pinch. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 24, 2005 12 oz bottle, from the Woodmans on Gammon Road, Madison WI. Thick, lasting fine-bubbled creamy dark tan head topping a velvety ruby-tinged black near-opaque body, leaving fine snowflake lacing...dark, deep bitter coffee and mocha in the nose, touch of prune, nice but rather weak...very creamy body like the Rocky’s Revenge previous to it, moderately bitter chocolate edging darker towards the finish, smoothly malty and somewhat vinous though fairly dry at the very finish. Pretty well-crafted but somehow just not very distinctive. donbusa (11), Jefferson, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 21, 2005 Bottle, from trade with duane. Good nose, sweet. Malted chocolate, lite dried cherry, Touch of sulphur, seltzer. Great looking beer, Clean reddish brown color, nice head that stayed most of the way. Bittersweet flavors, roasty. Like aromas, little of a burnt flavor too. Thicker body, creamy smooth mouthfeel, bitter finish. Leaves a powdery coating. Oh those porters, can be so tasty and yet seem lite. Great porter.
